Multistrada 1200s Centre Stand Removal.

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by duncthediver, Jun 30, 2012.

  1. Has anyone removed their centre stand. Mine keeps grounding out and due to the fact the Multi is going to Donnington at the end of july i dont want is grounding out there. Removal is it just a matter of undoing the return spring and removing the two allen key bolts.

  3. Mine kept grounding out so I cut the bottom loops off on either side, (the lower part of the stand when its upright0. It doesn't effect the stand working and has sorted the problem (so far).

I also cut off the side stand extension as that was the next thing to touch down, this makes the side stand slightly harder to find at first when you want to put it down when sat on the bike but you soon get used to it.

  4. Wouldn't it have been easier to remove it and just put it back on when touring?
    That's what I'm doing.

  5. I have not removed the stand yet, however if i find the bolts too difficult to remove, i will ask Ducati Leeds to remove it for me. As you say the stand is mainly used for touring but is very useful when cleaning the bike, chain etc. I truth is there should be no reason to remove the stand in the perfect world ( poor design )

  6. No, coz entusiastic touring results in the stand touching down ridden one up so probably even more likely 2 up touring even without being enthusiastic.

  7. I've decided what with the disc bolts and various other fastners on these bikes smeared with Loctite that I'm bying an impact driver.
By the way, you can get the stand off without undoing the bolts, it flexes enough to allow this.

I toured for 2000 miles this summer with full luggage full, set it to touring, 1 person with luggage, and had no issues with the stand touching down at all and we did some cracking roads in Germany.

  8. Short answer is yes. I'm no mechanic or techy, but I removed mine last winter to give everything a good clean up underneath, and it was pretty easy. As you rightly say, remove the spring and the 2 allen key bolts and it drops off. Went back on fairly easy as well.....

  11. Hi Theodore, the link below should work, I've just gone on and checked it. It is fairly easy to fit and remove.

or use this one from SW MOtech, you just don't use the spring bracket (I think)

  12. JimVee thank you very much for your help.
the link still does not work.
    is says http error.
regarding the sw motech, i already have it.
    my question is
    1) where to mount the handle
2)a small pin (hollow inside) which i do not know where to match!!

thank for the help any way.

P.S. If the First link Works for you, could you please download it and send it to me to
    [email protected]

    thanks for everything friend!!

    greetings from GREECE!!

  13. Weird, it works for me, you may have some settings on your PC switched off? In answer to your q?

1 Handle mounts on the side of the left passenger footrest, there is a blanking plate fitted and you need to remove this to fit the handle.
    2. The small pin is for the handle, it sits in one of the holes on the footrest to stop you lifting the handle up too much if that makes sense.

Have sent you the link and parts manual to your email above.

    Cheers

    Jim

  14. Had to send 2 x emails as the parts was too big, if it doesn't come through, heres the link to the Ducati UK website with the spare parts manual, just put in your model details, and download, Page 114, item 25 is the handle blanking plate in the pic.

  17. Theodore,

Just realised I have my PP Manual, see below:

  18. got it thanks!!
i will give it a go probably on monday..will let you know!!

  19. ok.so i installed yesterday. all good except one thing.
below the catalyst, it seems to be a small welded piece of Metal with a hole in the middle. seems that it should be a rubber stop there or something. in the parts diagram , it doesnot seem to have anything.
the problem us that the stand's rubber stop does not apply correctly on the lower parft of that welded metal. it has about 3 cm distance from it. if i leave it like that, it will touch the catalyst and eventually will melt out because of the heat genereated. Any thoughts??

  20. UPDATE.I just called ducati HELLAS.
they informed that "this is the way it is build" and "do not worry,. when the rubber stop melts (exhaust temp.) you can always replace it......"
