I am selling a set of 999 wheels and a guys wants to put them on his 851. Is that possible at all? Anyone did it? tnx Jim
Engineering involved at a guess. The spindles are much thinner so bearing spacers for starters, then I don't think the 851 discs will bolt on the wheels, I doubt the chain will line up and a 999 chain is 525, 851 is 520. AND THEY'LL LOOK AWFUL.
Certainly not a straightforward job. Front wheel from 999 will not work with the mechanical speedo drive, discs are a different offset and hole pattern (so can't swap the discs over). Rear wheel is (I'm fairly certain) wider at the hub so won't fit in an 851 swingarm. There maybe other things too? That said it might be possible with some engineering but definitely not a straight swap.
