  1. It makes me fume the crap that these companies hand out. We bought a Renault Clio for my daughter with a '1 year warranty'. Within about 3 months the alternator bearing went, it was wobbling around and making a terrible din. I was at my local garage, the only fix was a new alternator so we called them. First question to the garage "is it still charging?"
"Well, yes but it could break at any time and wreck large parts of the engine..."
Their reply "This item is not covered as it still functions and replacement is not authorised".

I can't promise it was Warranty Direct as I binned all the paperwork, but I wouldn't be surprised!

    Fuckers the lot of them...

  2. I read Warranty Direct's policy document (which you can download from their website) and it doesn't explicitly state either way about UK only cover as far as I can see.
I got a quote, just out of interest of £650, which they can stick where the sun doesn't shine!

Was going to get a quote from Auto Protect (who deffo cover riding abroad according to their website summary) but it looks like they maybe only deal with the trade?
Has anyone called them to get a price as a direct punter rather than through a dealer?

  3. I deal with Autoprotect through my work (car sales manager) and 'have asked this question, I could supply you a warranty but only if I have sold you the bike, I am speaking to them to see if there is a way round this as I am in the same boat with my warranty expiring this month, ill let you know if i get anywhere.

  4. :Vomit:
TT I think this PDF is the very same document that was sent to me, you and many, if not all others, who have bought this warranty in respect of the policy quotation I received back and you are right there is no mention of Europe not being covered. I can't get the link to work, but the coding seems to be the same.

:Arghh: However, here's the rub, have a good look at the warranty booklet you would have likely received sometime after in the post, because somewhere towards the back of the book is one very small mention of it only being valid within the UK!

So whoever has this policy would appear to have a similar problem with no Euro cover!
I'll let everyone know how I get on with my efforts for resolution. :Nailbiting:

  5. If these are the full t&cs then there can be no other small print

Re price, seems most get a large quote then when you call them it falls to £350

  6. Right then. I have spoken with WD and had a reply in writing. Their bike policy covers you for 100 days P/A European travelling.

  7. this would be acceptable lets hope tony has some joy reclaiming his costs

  8. :upyeah: TT, sounds very positive, any chance you could post the reply you received in writing before I make contact with them this weekend to see where this particular issue goes?

  9. They didn't respond at first so I sent them a snotty second e-mail.
The reply I received is below.

    Dear ********
    Thank you for your email.
We do not appear to have received the original below. I do apologise for the inconvenience caused.
Your policy allows 100 days European Travel cover.
    Kind regards

  10. I've been in contact with WD via email and wait to see how I get on.
I'll keep everyone interested 'up to speed'
    ;)

  11. Learning and Development Coordinator? WTF

  12. It's code for Loss Decreasing Coordinator.

  13. Just re-read my policy booklet. Page 13, first paragraph reads;
"We will pay towards the cost of repairing the motorcycle, up to the sum insured, following a breakdown of any insured part or damage to any insured part caused by the breakdown of a part which is not covered under this insurance. This breakdown must happen during the period of insurance and in the UK"

I can find no mention whatsoever in the booklet of 100 days European cover at all.

  14. Definitely confusing messages. If the staff are unclear, what chance does the punter have. Though I cant see why they would or want to exclude Europe, the repair cost would be pretty much universal if using the dealership channels and labour rates are capped anyway through the policy ?

  15. :Inpain: TT,
That's what I was trying to tell you, the original 'contract-negotiation' document and the warranty booklet sent out in the post as a follow-on are different and that is the key point. The booklet totally contradicts the PDF it would seem we are likely to have all received and I think the 100 days quoted to you recently by the 'LDC' person comes from the car policy details.
At the very least extremely confusing, but as I have said, I'll let everyone know how I get on and I would strongly suggest we should all make an equal fuss about the inequity and invalidity of the process. We have been mis-informed about the policy and have been mis-sold something not fit for purpose.
"All for one and one for all".....if you know what I mean?:Bag:
    :Sour::Sour::Sour:

I think I need one of these :Doctor:

  16. :upyeah: Well,
I've received an extremely positive response back from WD regarding my concerns and complaint about the mis-selling issue with the warranty on my Multi, around the lack of European cover for repaired events.
Whilst they don't completely acknowledge that they are wrong, they do concur that the telephone sale script doesn't adequately deal with the UK limitations, something which is stated in only one place in the warranty booklet that follows on in the post, after the verbal + PDF sale negotiation process has progressed and they also agree that the overall documentation requires update to appropriately reflect the sale conditions intended.

They have also confirmed that they look forward to extending the European cover option to all motorcyclists and have not only agreed to look at covering my costs with my recent breakdown, provided it is an 'insured-event', but they have also confirmed, assuming I renew going forward at expiry of my current policy, they will ensure that up to 100 days European cover will be part of any new policy.

So all in all a very professional response and with the commitments given, potentially a very positive outcome, provided the BBS electronic unit is agreed as an 'insured-event'. :Watching:

What I would now categorically suggest to all on this forum who have a Warranty Direct policy, is to get in touch with them to ensure you absolutely have the 100 days European cover included with your policy, even if a retrospective agreement.
    :)

  17. They've confirmed to me now that it's cars only. I have sent a strongly worded e-mail to them and await a response.

  18. Sounds like a decent result Tony and a good change for all
