Hi, thinking of getting one - not to save me a second round a track, but to make riding a bit easier and to be able to ride a bit longer (injury = severely weakened left arm). Anyone done this / results - any reason to not do this and best make / model to go for (without necessarily spending a fortune)? Thanks any advice / threads to follow (being lazy there!!), Andrew.
I'd buy a race shift HM Racing QS Lever. Pricey but its the best. Ive an OEM one on my 1198. Its shit.
Thanks - just doing some research online and HM seems the way to go. Price is @ 375 - does that seem about right, or is something extra needed over and above the unit itself? (Plus getting it fitted!)
Nice one and thx again. Seems the name to go for, but would do road pattern as that's all I ride / am used to. Seems a clever and recommended bit of kit!
HM only seem to list 999 - any idea if this fits the 749 also? (I can phone em I guess to check). Cheers.
Just wondered what the benefit is then? Clutch less up shifts can be done without a quick shifter, so, if it does not give clutch less down shifts, why bother with one?
Fair point tbh and I do clutchless up shift on occasions (esp 4-5-6). Does eliminate the chance of screwing a shift up / shagging the box, although poss more practice in that area required? Any tips in that respect gratefully received - arsed up a couple of times on my sv and once on 749 - didn't sound v nice, but think I wasn't being positive enough on the shift perhaps?
Not sure I have any valuable experience to give. Agree with comment about clutch less up shifts 3 to 4 and higher. I tend to put a little bit of pressure on the gear lever as I reach the point I want to change gear, then just let throttle plateau for a second rather than accelerating. Gear clicks in and your back on the gas. Letting the throttle plateau allows the gearbox to unload, and the next gear clicks in.
If you have trouble changing gear with your left hand why not try running with fewer clutch springs..... = lighter clutch. Im assuming you have an aftermarket slave already. After that (cheap options) i would be looking at an rcs or accossato radial master cylinder. Again, much lighter feel.
Thanks for replies all. Have aftermarket slave and set of light springs. Clutch pull is ok, main prob is no shoulder movement so under heavy(ish) acceleration when your weight is shifted backwards, and always having the pinky and ring finger gripping the bar (can't easily lift hand back on), it's slightly awkward to pull clutch in. I tend to pre load the shifter, and then roll off /on throttle + clutch also and get decent shift - just thought qs would make life even easier!
Dynotronic race pattern quickshifter on my 749r gets a thumbs up - fantastic bit of gear that gives me loads of smiles
Think I am most likely to go Translogic. Anyone local to me (Essex / Suffolk) border you can recommend to fit the thing as I deffo can't to it meself!!??
