Need to remove the bar end plug on the inner side of the handlbar clip on - oem - its metal and despite not so gentle pursuasion doesnt seem to want to come out. Dont want to damage the bar but trying to remove it so i can insert a ram mount. Has anyone managed to remove theirs and if so how? Thanks
OEM bar ends are plastic and pull out (one of mine fell out) maybe there's some corrosion making it tight?
As in the inside one? Mine is silver and definately looks metal? On my other bikes they are all black plastic I have hammered it from the inside out using a rod inside the handlebar and it wont budge?
They are metal. The bar is hollow so you'll need to remove the plastic end and drift through. And yes, they are f'in tight! Might be worth removing it to make the job easier and less potential for damage.
Oops, my mistake I was thinking of the plastic bar end. Never removed the inner cap, thinking Anonye's advice is good on this.
I did the same for some reason - can't remember why now... It may have been because I bent a bar and bought a replacement off ebay that didn't have the metal end cap when it turned up so I took the one out of the bent one, and I remember it being tight. I also remember that it then didn't fit into the replacement bar as it was a different size...
Need it out so I can fit a satnav mount - am riding down to Donny for teh Ducati trackday next Tuesday via the Lincolnshire v-twinfestival on the Monday
I have removed mine in the past for powder coating and the are remarkably hard to get out. You do have to remove the plastic plug to drift them our preferably with a bar not much smaller than the inner diameter of the handlebar. There are two types of handlebar tube early model ones up to about 1999 and the later ones which came after that. They are not really interchangeable as the holes for the switches and the master cylinders are in slightly different places, I did succeed in altering mine but only because I was using bar risers. The plugs however should be the same as the diameter did not alter, certainly as far as the ones I have come across are concerned, but I have only removed these plugs about three times in all.
