Thanks guys I didn't come on here for an argument was genuinely asking for advice and to see if anyone else has had the same or similar problem it's booked in at the dealer on sat so will let you know what evolves
All sorted !!!!! The problem was when the dash was set on level 8 the system was showing it was in level 1 when plugged into the Ducati diagnostic so basically arse about face
As a 999 owner, I have no TC. I also don't recall ever having wheel spin. is this because I am so limpwristed that I'm not giving it enough beans coming out of corners (a high side always seems like a poor way to go), or is it that my bike is so anaemic compared to the most recent Ducatis that I couldn't get it to spin even if I tried? It may have stepped out a few times on white lines in the wet - who hasn't? Would TC cure that?
99% of the time it will but there is always a chance it won't ! But I would rather know it was there just to save my arse 99% of the time
My TC doesn't stop the white lining, but it does stop it getting out of control with major spin up. I have the anti-wheely control on too so give it lots of right wrist out of the corners once the tyres are warm, the light flickers on to say it's working. Do I ride it differently to the Desmo? Not really. Did I give the Desmo more respect? Absolutely. The difference the electronics make are they make you lazy and less concerned about the consequence of a momentary lack of control.
I remember reading somewhere (when I was vaguely looking into it) that the TC on the 1198 was a must and that the thing is so grunty that the standard one that came without it originally would have you quickly hedge visiting. I doubt they would have put it on if it wasn't useful. We can then all argue the toss about whether it is a good plan to develop a road bike so powerful that you can't control it without electronic aids. But let's not. That's quite enough merriment for one thread.
Well I have owned this bike for about a week now and I've ruined a back tyre on it cos all it did was wheel spin
Probably best not to take it almeria then you'll need a seperate lorry too take your tyres.lol don't have traction control so can't offer any constructive comments.
At the risk of sending this thread full circle....maybe a little more care with the traction control in the right hand is needed after all....or a giant tyre budget! Without doubting your ability, it's not an inline four and does need riding in a different style.
For what it's worth I found a big difference in how I rode the numerous jap fours I owned to how I've had too adapt to the 1098.learning to ride it more on the torque and not just the revs.was frequently hitting the rev limiter until I was adviced to ride a gear up from what I would usually do,especially on track.there so deceptively quick so had a tendency to crank up thru the revs rather than ride the massive torque.works for me!
