998 Front Number Board

  1. I have taken one off a bike! It was very thick and had nasty rubbery feel to it. I don't know what the one you mention is like but personally I would have one painted on, they do look better in my opinion and can be lacquered to give a much more original look and a smoother "feel" to the paint job.

I am fortunate in that I have a spare stock painted top fairing so on selling the bike I could revert to standard.

Is it stick on or squeegee on? it must be quite thin to fold over the screen top etc. It looks pretty decent and I have dealt with the seller via eBay before and he was very good.

  2. It's a stick on vinyl I assume ..... just concerned I'll make a mess of it. Might have to look into getting it sprayed on!

  3. if you have it sprayed on at least you have some comeback. If it goes wrong then it's £20 possibly wasted and no comeback to anyone

  4. I have a number board on mine, same as the fleabay link, but want to paint and lacquer it properly, looks ok but I just don't like the garish gold edge and doesn't match the darker gold/bronze pinstripe on the tail unit! Have been trying to find same colour pinstripe but no luck! Anyone have any ideas?

  5. for £20 that's a bargain really, take the nose cone off so you can move it around and get the best working position and tuck all the edges over, take the screen out clean the surface with panel wipe till it's cleaner than the cleanest thing in the world, heat the vinyl gently with a heat gun on low or a hairdryer to start activating the adhesive, then get sticking, buy a squeedge thing as well so you can do it properly. If you get a bubble just warm it all up a bit unpeel it and go again.

  6. I have one fitted, superb finish just take your time putting it on, much cheaper than getting it painted and looks as good. :upyeah:

  7. I've got that exact one myself. I bottled it and got a mate who does this sort of thing for a living to put it on.
Sprayed loads of water on first so he could move it about, then used a heat gun to stretch it over.
Came out pretty well, just the odd lump from stone chips underneath.

  8. I have the same one and it's been on for years. Comes with instructions from memory, but take you're time sticking it on though, the headlight bit is a little fiddly!!

I also bought a carbon V panel from the same guy. Both are great quality.

  9. Looks good, think I will give it ago.

  10. Bullitt thats in beautiful condition. restored or original?

  11. Thanks Chris,

Not restored in anyway - just original and has been a bit of a love affair for many many years - 12 if I'm not mistaken!! Not too many miles though, about 10k from memory.

Going to get a little make over this summer if I get the chance. I've got a carbon fairing/belly set to have painted up 996/8R style, full 50mm Terri system to get repacked, polished and fitted with chip and filter (45mm end cans on just now, but you can always have bigger, and louder..) and a bit of service, forks/shock off (maybe replaced) , carbs set-up or if it makes more sense, an 853 kit.... who knows!!

Here are a few more for you... enjoy!!

  12. very very clean then if not repainted, nice bike. mine is in a similar sort of condition but have just had the front fairing sprayed to get rid of stonechips and a painted number board as opposed to a stick on one. saying that i manged to get a bloomin stone chip on the number board first time out!

  14. Cheers.

Not had a lick of paint anywhere near it. There are a few chips on the nose, and the leading edge/lower part of the fairing, but that's what happens when I drive it in the Scottish Highland in the winter...!!

Still think they're the best looking of all the Ducati's.

  15. By far the best looking

  16. my freshly painted number board and bike.

  17. Very nice.

Clean bike too there fella. Great colour match or did you have the whole bike painted?

A pair of rear sets would top it off nicely ;-)

  18. i only had the front v piece, nose and sides done with a colour match, it had suffered quite a few stonechips on the front and the leading edges of the sides, and had a ducati corse sticker on the v piece. when i took that off it made the rest looked worse with the chips. next job is getting the oe fairing fixings re plated and back on.

  19. Looks great. Stick some more picture up if you get a chance.

Also, if you need fixings etc, Carbon Trader do some. They look identical to the OEM ones. I'm not linked with the company in any way, I just think he offers great stuff at great prices!!
