I think the speedo cable on my 2002 ST4s (Showa forks) is knackered as my speedo failed yesterday. I had changed the bearings on the front wheel recently and I think I may have routed the cable a little awkwardly, hastening its end. I've found one online for the 748/916/996/998 at a reasonable price, does anyone know if they are interchangeable? Cheers, A
I doubt it. The part numbers are completely different and although the ends are the same the 916 cable is probably a good deal shorter.
I've recently ordered a speedo cable from my local duc dealers for a mid 90s 900ss and it was only 15quid. Why don't you try the local dealers it might be just as cheap for the ST4 one.
If you find a supplier who will tell you the length (of the inner) then you are laughing and it's just as cheap to buy complete cable and just use the inner if it is the correct length. I had the same deal with my Cagiva Elefant recently. I found a supplier on EBay that sells Moto Guzzi replacement cables (totally compatible threaded ends and possibly same for yours) and at around £10 it was good value but the only negative is that it seems all pattern part suppliers have resorted to using a 'C' section cleat at one end instead of the original crimped aluminium version - works ok but prefer the original method. Venhill in Dorking will 'make' you one for around £18 if all else fails
Thanks all. Indeed I did ring the local crowd and the price was very reasonable indeed, even more so than online. So will go with that. Not a stock item though and will take a few days to get one in. A
