Got Translogic Quickshifter - Advice Please.

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by DoctorW, Jun 1, 2014.

  1. Got the above fitted yesterday and first impressions loving it!! Found one false neutral and a couple of not so perfect shifts but guess this is just for me to suss regarding how "hard" or firm to up shift and how quickly to stab the lever - any advice here, or is it a case of all bikes will be bit different so go practice? One other ?- if just cruising along and want to up shift (but really just to drop revs if in steady moving traffic) should I still just up shift or is it ok / better to clutch the shift (just a "slow / lazy" change).
Cheers and thanks any thoughts / advice.

  2. My advice or the advice of very well known ducati specialists that look after my bike is start saving your pennies for a new gearbox as they told me in no uncertain terms its only a matter of time before I lunched mine using quickshifter.Or buy a £2250 one from Nova to stop the inevitable.I sold it the same week on fleabay.

Do a search on here for my gearbox has shit itself (using quickshifter with standard ducati gearbox)in 1198sp section.

  3. O
    Ouch - that don't sound great:Banghead:

  4. What about the standard Ducati quickshifter? Is it a ploy by Ducati so that you have to buy a new gearbox? ;)

  5. Yeah that's exactly what I thought.Shame as I liked my tectronics one but didn't use it that often unless on a long straight. It needed to be long to use it through the gears on full throttle and would see me in jail time territory very easily.

The words of wisdom from well known ducati guys that have vast experience in racing bikes/teams put the nail in the coffin for me and hense went on ebay.

  6. Umm - that no sound great. So, sort of back to my questions - use it little as poss? This would be fine tbh - only really got it to help when out riding with mates who are getting a wiggle on as the acceleration pushing you backwards makes quick changes more tricky with my disability. in which case, is it ok to clutch the upshifts if I want during "normal" riding?

  7. I would have thought so ,mine had a little switch so you could turn it off easily.

I used mine only once in a while .When I did use it I pissed all over a 06/07 R1. Not bad for a old 1998 916sps running tectronics JHP quickshifter at the time.

But like I said I love my bike so want it to last as long as possible and quickshifters certainly don't help this. The good thing is I guess with fleabay older duke gearbox parts can be found more cheaply should the worst happen.

  8. Cheers for advice Matt - will use the clutch much as poss and qs only when necessary, which isn't that often. Don't have the option to turn on or off unfortunately - would this be a prob, as wondered what happens if I upshift using the clutch but obv the pressure sensor will kick in also? Or will it have done its thing and be done way before I've completed my manual / clutched effort (if that makes sense!!)

  11. Typical thing really - think doing something to help (not bloody cheap either) and then find probably dropped a bollock lol!!

  12. Hi Jerryxt - could you elaborate if poss, ie disagree that qs will have done its thing, or can't clutch the upshifts?
    Or something else?
    Thx v much,
    Andrew.
