Where are you based? Fastest way of getting results is to go to a suspension shop. I have had both K-Tech and Revs racing set mine up and both made a world of difference.
Cool. Dont bother will small adjustments, go big. You need to feel how it changes and most of us mortals cant tell a click or two. And only one adj, ie comp OR reb at a time. If sag is fine don't touch it. If its bottoming out you'll need heavier springs...
Standard bike suspension is not good enough to make much difference to the effect on the ride or handling as the manufacturer has to take into account the sizes of folk large or small and altering the suspension drastically could create a potential accident so the manufacturers settle for a happy medium and the settings work in nearly all the situations required for road riding...........good quality suspension costs and the quickest way to improve your ride and response is to fit springs to suit your weight frt and rear then you know the springing is more suited to you. Then the damping is the next issue and this is the black art everyone refers to and it can be altered by oil weight, shim stacks temp on the day and road surface etc So getting a good setting with standard suspension is very hard but if anything go softer and be safe too hard will not cope with potholes etc it can cope with tracks but not UK roads. Saying that standard bike suspension fitted to modern bikes is good and getting better but not any race teams are using standard stuff.
Not bottoming out. Have over 1 inch on front below cable tie. That was with only 1 remaining preload value left to go too. Should I windot all the way out?
Did you check out crankers link? There are some clues as to why it may do what it does, eg too much front reb can run you wide
I get what you're saying, but I'm not wanting upgrade, just use what I have. I have adjustable kit so I intend to solve the under steer through adjustment first. Just annoying that I only really find it when I'm cranked right over on a round about to notice it
It's 30mm on the front and rear. I put the front back to how it was yesterday when I got home. I had a glance at the link but not had time to read it properly yet. Will find time tomorrow
Sounds right front but rear try 25, then 20. On track its 8-15 tops rear. If its sitting too low that will also push you wide. Like a boat...or a Harley
I'll give that a go next time I go out and see what happens. The rear shock only has 8 preload settings, not double rings like you'd expect
I like mine firm tho so may be better to add a little to the front, ie take it to 40mm rider sag, rather than firm the rear. Not sure if this is linked above, but great resource, and suggest softer than I would use Motorcycle Suspension Setup
Some of the going wide could be due to the road surface. I had the same on a few of the roundabouts on the way back. As its a well used route I put it down to the bike following the groves caused by HGV's on the road.
I'm still having understeer issues. I intend to take it to MH Racing when I can, and have them set it up on my behalf
Absolutely the best bit of advice I ever got where bikes are concerned. You could take it to an expert of course, but then you learn nothing. Spend a weekend tinkering yourself, you can always go back to the factory settings if you get lost.
