I have just aquired an 06 999 that is fitted with an R model exhaust. What are the weight saving/power increases I can expect from it, if any? Is it better or worse than termi's in respect of weight loss and power gain over standard pipes? Cheers, Si
The R model exhaust can be the "racer" mufler or the larger a symetrical pipes it is Termignoni as well. all ducati inhouse systems are Termignoni as to weight over the R model to the standard model, the difference should be not that big. As to width, it does make a difference... it should let the engine breath more freely and give you a 5bhp extra.. The weight difference will probably not realy be noticable in rinding... So i suppose that the Termi you're refering to are the symetrical 54 or 57MM systems possbly with Titanium muffler.. these are the real upgrades... at that price they should be... the true weight gain comes from the titanium muffler.. i just had mine back from the shop where they put on a 57 and mapped it to the bike. it went from 137 to 148 BHP on the rear wheel... it does loose some torque idrange but that is classic for larger pipes.. not that you feel it as this is mainly noticed only whe you whack the throttle open to 90%.. i would not recommend whaking the throttle open under any lean in street use environments... the bike rides very well bog standard... with a capacity that exceeds 99% of non racing riders skills... so congrats with the bike! grtz Koen
Simon that looks very much like the standard system fitted to all 999 . The standard R system is the same as the standard S system and I think probably the base is the same as well. Only the assemetric system that came free with the R is any better but even that was exactly the same as the one you can buy for the S . You can get a Ti silencer that will fit the S or the R too. The full 57mm system that can be bought for any model is also exactly the same for S or R. Only the ECU that comes with the full system is different for each model. They were different between years 04 to 05
I will check it out. I have a complete seperate full system in a box that also has the original air filter with it? Cheers, Si
Well the system in the box is 57mm. Its being fitted this week so will post some more pictures when its on.

now that is a great extra! i had to buy 2,5 systems to get one! if ti's new, that's 1250 gbp won! grtz Koen
i just did it when i put on the 57 last month ... it is thé thing to do but get ready for some hurting.. if they do it well, you're looking at 2750 gbp... grtz Koen
Guys, Sorry to but in.. I'm just a newbie after some advice.. I've just joined the forum this evening.. howdie... & just purchased what I hope is a termi end can for my 2003 749 (see pics) looking @ the pics, can you confirm if its termi if so what type (I hear 54mm 57mm, not sure what that means) also, my plan was to un bolt & bolt on, will that be the case or do I need a new ecu, filters etc... which would blow my budget If its just a straight forward swap, how is it done & what performance increase would one get from it... So sorry for all these questions on the 1st night... just in need of some assistance.. Thanks JA
I'd say that's a 54mm Asymmetric can (yes, Termignoni). You can just bolt it on but then you'll still have the cat in the pipe from the front cylinder. Ideally you'll need to swap that pipe too. As for performance, you probably won't notice much apart from the glorious noise. PCIII & full setup got me about 5hp IIRC.
Cheers for your reply.... Yep been told earlier that I need a decat pipe... So on the look out for a cheap one of them now.... the spending never stops....
Still reading up on this Termi.. As mentioned it has no markings on it what so ever. Not even the 'not for road use' one.. Does that mean anything.. Will it still have no cat in it.
I think Baggazee is right ! is Asym termi so should be 54MM ( pipe width if on a whole system - all pipes + muffler) Id 'd say : try it on... is a 40 min swap ... might give you some more grunt and free revving... it looks like it already has been on. The map it ran on def was not 'over-rich' Are you sure yous bike isn't already mapped for this muffler? grtz Koen
I doubt it.. I brought this pipe 2nd hand... So i should improve sound & poss bhp & I won't need to do anything to the ecu right??
Fitted this yet? ps sure I read elsewhere that if it does not have the racing use stamp than it has the cat
Yep fitted it on Friday, went out for a 1st ride yesterday.. what a noise it makes. sounds beautiful... not sure about the 'not for road use' stamp.. on some of the post's it talks about people, polishing out etc.... I assumed thats what happened here... i removed the old link pipe & replaced with a decat pipe.... I'm sure it vibrates more when your on high revs 7k-8kish... not sure if its quicker... I've done no mapping/setup.. its running standard setup....
