Not disappointed with the SF 848 as such, its a great bike> I bought it new in October. But I was taking it to to Bridgenorth about 3 weeks ago and the engine management light came on. It was due for its first service anyway and was booked in for that at JHP the following week so I rang them and told them about the light. So I didn't ride it anymore until I took it to Coventry for the service. It was riding ok but the light came on again after a few minutes. It went in for the service and the service guy said that it was showing an idle air control valve fault. They cleaned the connector and tested it and said it was ok. However on the ride home it came on again! it was chucking it down, so not really wanting to turn back I took it back home and rang JHP again and told them. They suggested I call the breakdown recovery crew and get them to take it back to Coventry which I did. It went back last Tuesday I rang JHP last Thursday and they said they had ordered a new idle air valve and that it may be there the next day (Friday). I heard nothing so I rang them back yesterday. The service manager seemed quite annoyed that I'd rang him and claimed " I told you I'd ring you when I had some news" the part apparently still hadn't arrived. So I've now been 3 weeks without a bike I can ride ( not good now summers here) and still don't know when Im going to get it back !! Ive got next week off and was planning a few days in Wales but now not sure if I can go Grrrrrrrrrr might be tempted to go back to Honda !! Has anybody else had similar idle air valve issues ??
The bikes running and riding ok ???? its just a idle valve issue ?? why have it recovered ?? Use the bike till the part comes in , whats the big issue here
The good weather is allowing Waleys frustration to boil over. I understand that. Sometimes shit happens when you least want it to. But it just does sometimes. When I was knocked over on my bike, it took ages for the new fairings etc to arrive and I had to ride my bike to the alps all bruised and bent. Its frustrating waiting for parts sometimes and its outside the control of the dealer. No amount of chasing or phoning will make them arrive quicker. Never stopped me phoning though either. But you just have to accept that they will be here when they arrive and not before. Its not the dealers fault.
another wee problem in uk is the fact that biking is seasonal, they will tick over November to march, then be inundated for the rest of the year. you stress for 5 months then really stress for the remaining seven.
Ohh I feel for you, that's why I went back and bought another Honda. My streetfighter also gave me a headache on more than one occasion!!
Not really. Good service is letting you know whats happening. Great service is doing something to make sure it happens as quick as it can and gives you the least most inconvenience.
Yeah I know I'm just venting my frustration, not the dealers fault. When the problem first happened they said it would be ok to ride there but take it easy. It's also been more difficult to start on a couple of occasions since the light came on so thats why I've been reluctant to ride it… i'd rather not ride than have to "take it easy" !! Looking forward to getting it back
First service in June after a new bike in October! So that's 8-9 months for 600 miles. So thats maybe 15 miles a week. So a three week loss is 45 miles. Take a cab and stick your head out of the window, you'll soon make up lost ground I'd have asked for a loan bike, especially on something so new.
Not really Count, as a self confessed fair weather rider I would have done a lot more than 45 miles over the last 3 weeks, particularly this week ! I did ask for a loan bike but there were none available !
It gets worse! Hadn't heard anything so I gave them another call today at 5:00 pm to be told : " it's not good news I'm afraid" A new idle air valve had been fitted but the light came on again !! So now it's down to fitting a new electrical harness, which has been ordered. It's such a shame, I've wanted a Ducati for years but my Ducati experience so far has not been a good one
So wonder why they didn't call you. Don't lose faith, brother, its worth it. And service is as service is, so if you dint like it there take it somewhere else next time
Jesus Christ !!! new loom needed on a newish bike ......... how can that be , i dont know the details of the fault , is the new loom a guess because the idle valve didnt fix it , whats missing at the idle valve ..... a live , earth, or no tracking position , resistance in the wiring under continuity tests ......... who knows ???? Fiting a full loom could be long winded , if was working on this i would pin out from the ecm to the idle valve with a new sub section of wiring loom could be 5 wires max i would say then see what happens , if fault still there could be a ecm fault , but perhaps they just dont work like that , its a case of fit some parts and see what happens Dont want to be a monger of doom but i think you could be in for a long wait
They did say that it would be a pretty major job to fit a loom, I don't know if they tried swapping over the ecm, I guess that would have been an easy thing to try or maybe they didn't have one available. Its an intermittent fault, the light doesn't come on all the time, they said when they tried it they tested it for 5 miles before it came on, these type of faults are always tricky to trace. I asked for a courtesy bike again but still no joy so I'm going to have to stick to 4 wheels for a while
