999 Won't Start When Warm

  1. true. I had a CPS issue on one bike for fkking ages that caused all kinds of problems. From memory, Toine at Biggelaar fixed it in the end, but the motor had been rebuilt by a reputed British dealer several times with this issue not addressed.

  2. My 03 999S had one press starter system

  3. Noted!

  4. Don't know if it will be of any use but I had a similar problem with my 848. Turned out one of the lambda sensors was playing up and it wasn't fueling correctly. Only noticeable when it came to restart the bike and it was trying to start on the last fueling settings dictated by the dodgy sensor. Lots of cranking and smelling of fuel but not firing up.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

  5. Had a chat to the guru and he suspects a dodgy sensor of one sort or another. Bound to be a small thing but they can take a long time to find. Whatever, it'll have to go back to the dealer. Bill won't be small in any case so the least you expect is that it works perfectly. Fortunately they are nice guys at the dealers although, shock horror, my guru says he still services mates' bikes but not to tell anyone (or he'll be besieged.) well, if I'd known that... Why go to the disciples if you can go the master?

  6. Speak to the organ grinder not the monkey;)

  7. i am having a very similar problem with my 749. (see thread in tech section).

Start fine cold, or even really hot if i stall it. However if i leave it for 10-20 mins, nothing, and i have inevitably flooded the engine a few times trying to start it. very annoying.

Please get in touch if you find a solution! cheers
    Alex

  8. anyone manage to find the problem yet?

  9. no idea if this helps but i had a hot start problem on my vmax and that was cured by beefier earthing.

  10. That could be worth a whirl. What's the verdict? Hard to say. It is nominally fixed, but there is a residual problem of some description. The bike is prone to stalling when you open the throttle after idle. So you're at the traffic lights, and when they go green finally, you open the throttle and it stalls.
To be honest, it's always had a bit of a tendency to do this, and if you open the throttle gingerly, it usually won't stall, but grab a handful and it well might. It's a bit irritating, but one of those things you learn to live with. It still won't start immediately when warm, but it will catch now. Maybe a big earth might help.

  11. Could be water in the tank

  12. isnt that a mixture problem?

  13. could be.

  14. a mixture of fuel and water? :D

  15. these tanks can let water in from the top, just like the fuglystrada. Added to that, condensation forms on the top of the tank. (If you've got long fingers) run your finger inside the top of the tank. You will probably have some rust there.

  16. you won't go back there then....what could possibly go wrong?:Brb:

  17. Cheers. I'll try that next time I fill up.
