Monster 696 09 Second Gear.

  1. Hello guys i am a new rider and member of this forum. I bought a 09 696 monster 1 month ago. I have noticed something in my gearbox.

    1. When changing from 1st to 2nd gear there is a clank noise.
    2. Happens when changing gear above 4-5k rpm
    3. I pull the clutch all the way in.
    4. Does not happen at any other gear at any rpm.
    5. I blip the throttle as well and try to rev match but still the same noise.

Is this normal with this bike? Do i need to check the gear box? Is there a problem with my riding?

    Any advise will be appreciated!

  2. Sounds like nothing to worry about. Your going up the box so it's usual.
Had a 696+ for a couple if years.
    Loved that bike!
Pics please and welcome to the forum fella.

  3. ronin thanks for the reply! photos coming soon!!

I was worried because the noise is audible only when changing to second from first so i thought it might be a worn gear or something. Or maybe the oil quality?

    Thanks again!

  5. Same colour as mine. All you need is termi's now :)

  6. Definitely in the future, after i pay some of it off!!! :p

  7. I called the ducati dealer about servicing and asked them about the noise from 1st to 2nd gear and he told me that it should be very smooth and no sound should be heard!! He said definitely is something with the gearbox!! not sure now what to do!!

I tried lifting the chain up and measure the distance and it should be between 46-48mm but it is more like 10mm!! Could this be the reason for the noise?

  8. It's a quick and simple job to do, and being that tight it certainly won't be helping

  9. I do not really know if am taking the correct measurements. The manual says to push with a finger. What i do is push from below toward the swing arm, hold it there and then measure the distance. Is that the correct way??

  10. What you are doing is correct as long as you are measuring the deflection mid way between the sprockets
