Had a ride to Stanford Hall for Founders Day. The Taverners Founders day Had a really good day. My mate is a member of the Italian Motorcycle Owners Club so we left our bikes on their stand, no "roughing it" with all the peasants in the carpark for us! A Duzmo. I thought it was a cheap copy of a Desmo but nope, Duzmo was a British motorcycle manufacturer, 1919-1923. Notice the speedo drive on the front wheel. I found this particularly interesting, two Ariel Leader twin engines grafted together to make a four, love the engineering that goes into something like this. I was hoping to hear it run but I missed it which was a shame. Some veterans, including a TT racer with a flat twin, in-line engine. The medic and the nurse. Everyone displaying their bikes did two laps of the grass arena then came in to talk about their bikes. Not these two though. They jumped on their Royal Enfield outfit, equipped with stretcher on the side car, the nurse is on pillion and they tear around the arena laughing their heads off, they must have done a dozen laps. Brilliant to see them having so much fun. A douglas despatch bike. The commentator said it could take upto eleven riders to get a message through. The rider aboard HP-281 was wearing a replica of the uniform worn by one of his relatives during the first world war. He said it was accurate in every detail, even down to the two small stripes on the left sleeve/cuff to denote his relative had been wounded twice. A bit of Italiano and Brit iron. .....and zee Germans. An ideal commuter for London maybe. A 200 mile round trip for us and £6 to get in, well worth a visit.
