I only have one key for my 916. Is it as easy as buying a genuine Ducati key blank and going to my local key cutter? Many thanks.
Yep. My spare key isn't even a genuine Ducati key - just a Mr Minute generic brown plastic "handle" thing.
I had a key cut and programmed at Timpson's . Key cost £10(including chip) and cutting and programming was £10. Good value compared to Ducati's £43 for key only.
If you want a genuine Ducati key blank, this is a reasonable price; Genuine Ducati Spare Parts Blank Key, Monster 748 888 916 996 ST4 ST2 Supersport | eBay
Kawasaki key blanks can be used, the are just stock brass type keys with no plastic handle. I have one as a spare for my 748R and it is perfect, the key "handle" is a little longer but that actually makes it easier to use.
What's your problem? I wanted a genuine key so I could have a spare. Just because I've spent thousands buying a bike doesn't mean I can't be careful with MY money. Just because you may be wealthy enough to throw your money away at a Ducati dealer, which as mentioned, you would have thought they would have provided one anyway, but I guess they are looking after their money also.
Alf, El T once dropped a twenty-pence piece in a car park and it was lost forever. He never got over it. Thread closed.
Timpsons cut my key blank bought off eBay for my '94 900ss for free he just asked me to make a contribution in the charity box.
Try reading the (recent) 'Forum Rules' and don't get upset too easily unlike some numpties some people are so tetchy - but at least you are able to admit it which is a breath of fresh air!
Never take things personally. It's only the internetz. However if I was ever to get arsey with anyone then you'd know.
