996r Ecu Wiring

  1. I'm hoping to buy a 996R engine but missed the opportunity to have the ECU wiring loom as well. My parts guru (thanks Craig) tells me that the 996R ECU loom is unique to the R unlike the 998 series where the R is the same as the S. Can anyone explain what the difference is please ? Thanks, Andy

  2. All 996r/998/998r looms are identical.

  3. Its the way the lines are congfigured and length of the coil wires as possitioned in a different place on bikes with the tesa engine.

Ecu is mounted on the battery box rather than under the seat or up near the clocks like on RS bikes.

996's were a normal desmo, 996r a tesa motor hence differnt loom. (and frame i presume?)

  4. The 998 frame is identical to the 748R frame apart from the coil mounting position.

As above the 996R loom was in fact destined for the 998 series. Also the air flow sensor at the front is different so swapping the loom in itself is not enough you need the headlamp mounting bracket and the correct air sensor.

The front part of the loom after the headstock connection (near the radiator) should be the same as others in the series with the later 22 pin plug. The plugs from the front part of the loom inside the headlamp that connect to the switches and rev counter etc. are the same as earlier models.

  5. Sadly the project hasn't got off the drawing board, not impossible but way too challenging for my skills. Do want to thank Tommy B for his patience :upyeah:. Andy
