Do modern steel fuel tanks get sealed at the factory from new? I have a 1 year old fuel tank which needs de-rusting as it's been poorly stored. I am thinking that the rust means it's not sealed? I dont really want to seal it if I don't have to.
I remember a years ago there was trouble with a batch 749 tanks not being sealed properly and rust build up etc happening, as mine was well out of warrenty so i decided to seal it my self with : POR15 Motorcycle Fuel Bike Tank Repair Sealer Kit | Frost Auto Restoration Techniques did the job nicely
ditto,i use por in any custom made chop tanks, fatbobs etc i get, works a treat if done properly. mind those dont have pumps etc in them, guess it would be more fiddly to do with a pump assembly to go inside.
no different really i just made sure it was cured longer..... followed the video on you tube: obviously i modified the technique to suit a bikes petrol tank
I didn't seal it in the end. The rust cleaned out with a cloth and some cillit bang of all things. then a rinse with some petrol and now it's on the bike. I need to get some better photos in the day light but here it is right now...
