I've got some fairly meaty chunks out of my track bike fairings. It looks like the gel coat has come off in chunks, leaving the fibre glass matting exposed underneath. The fairings are pretty flexible and there are a couple of cracks which open up when it flexes. The question is, can these dinks be repaired with gel coat and is there anything I can do about the bits that are flexing? I don't want to repair and paint only for it to crack the new finish.
Splinters are caused by poor adhesion to the gel coat when the item is moulded or air in the glassfibre to gelcoat bond. You can repair the fairings quite easily but you may get stress cracks reappearing after a certain time, up to a point that cannot be helped it depends on how stressed your fairings are when they are fitted. If they are a poorer fit and have to be forced on a bit then stress cracks will probably come back quite quickly. You can use this though for the cracks. Thanks Red. The fairings are a good fit but are in need of TLC. I was toying with the idea of just junking them and getting new but thats not really the point of track fairings is it! I need a project over the winter so this can be it
I am CEO of Magicezy, our 9 Second Chip Fix and Hairline Fix are NOW cheaper for you guys because they are available in UK from Onward Trading Company - they have every colour in stock now plus MegaFusion. I would suggest you use Hairline Fix as it dries super glossy like a Ducati. Both products are extremely flexible unlike say fibreglass with 5 times stronger bond. These are structural grade and will work beautifully with fibreglass. If the Fairings are made of Carbon Fibre/plastics /or composite plastics like Jetskis you will need our primer "MegaFusion" first which is an even more awesomely powerful bond. We developed our knowledge because my businesses trained over 500 car touch-up professionals and have been developing pro repair products since 1996. The repairs are not just for a photo shoot BUT guaranteed for 3 years - we are proud they are industry leading. Thanks for the kind words
Cheers for the vote of confidence Warwick. I had a look at it and indeed it looks like good stuff. I'll give it a go over the next month or so and will post some pics as I go. Any chance of a tube for promotional purposes?
You will love it or we will refund everything you paid. No questions asked. So just buy and try. I MEAN IT because you will be amazed. Although I love Ducati Style I am totally ignorant of what composition your fairings are made of so you may need MegaFusion. Both are beautiful "state of the art products" that fly off the shelves in Aussie, USA and now UK will follow. Did you see the revolutionary application system - it is just so easy and fun.
