I am about half way through my journey and while bike was faultless most of it in last 150 miles of 1st leg it developed a fault. It has me bit confused. On idle bike is running but bit rough, if you ask me feels bit rich. I can pull away and ride but at low to medium rpm, at steady throttle (no matter speed), it feels rough and what I can only describe as I can feel engine pulses through the bike. Defo not the normal vibrations. When I accelerate no issue, engine braking no issue, when I pull in clutch while moving no issue. When I go about 60mph up on 5th or above 70mph on 6ht all feels Ok as well. Even 50ish in 4th is ok. All I found that seems odd is: 1st spark plugs are well black. Saying that I rode through worst sudden storm I have ever ridden in. We got so drenched as I never did before. It was then that I notice those pulses more strongly (guess I slowed down). It was also then that bike 1st time stalled as front cylinder cut out due to so much water it was sucking in via moisture in airbox and wet plug cables. Front is defo darker. I swapped plugs around no joy. 2nd one is my scottoiler mounting at exhaust header broke off. I have a 1.5mm hole very close to vertical cylinder. Could that be enough to cause rough running and stalling?
Injection. I am thinking front is either unaffected and just fucked plug by virtue of it all being in essence submerged in water for a while. At the same time was thinking back is running lean due to leak and as it was 150 miles (maybe more as scottoiler mount could have been cracked but in place for a bit) I think, maximum 400 miles plug did not have time to show as it was not that hot to turn it white.
Damp weather makes a bike run richer..........(experience gained from racing the TZ engines)........I wonder if your airbox is still soaking wet and the filter is drenched as well..... .......Wet filter stopping airflow to some degree, plus damp air going into the carbs....
a quick wiff or sniff of the exhaust will tell you if it's rich or lean. its got no way of metering the air going in to the intake so cant see it affecting performance that much but would expect it spit and pop a bit. i think it would tell on the plug quite quickly.
Hm Argue bus I have cut off airbox.... I will get new plugs Monday and try it then. Air filter is now dry.
Just realised there is no Ducati dealer around...... Need to find filter for VW Beatle (the old one) it fits to carbed m900 so maybe also injected
Ah ok, do you have a CO sensor downstream of the hole in your pipe? If so, it may be bleeding in air and reading a lean mix and hence richen the mixture?
Possibly TPS,they can be prone to wet problems, storms that get water on the connectors and they decay causing poor contact, try a simple cleaning of the connectors or TPS might need adjustment,my 2 pennies worth fwiw
No unless it is running so low rpm ad idle that it stalls and I have to keep revs up. On normal day np.
