Hi all Just bought my first Ducati with a mate off Gumtree for 1300 snots. Although very tidy and fairly standard, she runs like a bag of shit, refusing to rev past about 3000. So, although we had hope to just use the bike to design some custom parts in the style of an endurance racer, the engine is coming out tonight for carbs cleaning and we may as well crack it open to see if there is anything nasty in there. Hopefully no issues and then we will soda blast the casings tomorrow. This is what we intend to do to her: 1. Endurance-style twin headlight half-fairing. We are going to craft our own fairing and fairing bracket, source headlights and worry about mirrors and indicators later, if at all! 2. Belly pan. our own design again, no air scoops, more rounded, less sharklike 3. High radiator hose and bracket kit. It looks like we will have to move the radiator a few inches higher up if the belly pan is going to look right, so we will also be making a kit to enable us to do this. 4. Single seat unit. This is the tough one. It needs to be smaller than standard but be big enough to retain balance. The frame must be left intact. No chopping. It must be styled in a way that gives a nod to both the café racer and the endurance racer whilst not looking too retro. 5. Megaphone silencers. Handmade stainless steel megaphones will look perfect on this bike. They need to look awesome. But not too loud. We look forward to checking the dyno readings of our own pipes against these D&D ones that we shall be selling as soon as this is done. If anyone fancies these D&D silencers to buy or has standard ones for a px, please let me know. 6. Silencer hanging brackets. These will be elegant tube affairs to complement the frame, unlike the standard ones! 7. Rearsets. Beautifully crafted alloy set with what looks like a potential weight saving by about half a ton, judging by the look of the standard set. 8. Rear hugger. The standard one is sinfully ugly. It must be replaced. And probably in carbon fibre. But with all this, we are going to allow her to have two identities, the totally standard look and the endurance racer look. All parts we make need to go on and off easily. Butchering not allowed on this bike. She is too tidy. I hope for tips, encouragement and help along the way and I hope our project will help others in the process of a light custom / restoration project. Really encouraged to see how people have been getting on with their projects on this forum. We are already encouraged by the relative simplicity of the bike compared to our last one, a late RGV250. Rich
those cans look big and possibly race type, if the jetting has not been altered to suit it will run badly. try standard cans.
Cheers. We can have a look tonight to see what size the jets are. Are standard jets easy to identify as standard and marked with sizes? We will be putting obscenely loud cans on the bike and so it may be that we sort the jetting instead of the cans. For now at least. Coincidentally, we got the bike from your town.
jets are always marked quite clearly, shouldn't be rocket science to read them. check online or in the manual to see if they are the right ones.
