1200 New Problem Today

  1. Not with the bike as such thats great ;)

Steering felt really heavy at a junction roundabout where I had to slow down so steered rather than drove thru. Then off mway onto slip road at top stop at lights. Figured was because I had brakes on or maybe front tyre had a puncture, next junc couldn't steer at all between cars.

Pulled over...and found my mudguard had somehow got wedged on the lip of my rad guard, which is about 6 inches away?! Can only think my abs testing going ahem mph to 30 at Corhampton must have compressed so much and forks flexed to be close enough to wedge itself.

Which meant I did 10 miles with essentially a bike which had a few inches movement either way.

  2. Now that doesn't sound like fun bradders, atleast you found out the cause and it wasn't damaged or you!!

Been lookin at desmo bikes too, spoke to numbskull, ie Neal the other day he's been on the lookout for me aswell!!

And I need to catch up with you again before the bad weather comes in, but am back to work very soon!!

  3. I'm guessing you met him at Parkinsons or Snetterton, his local circuit. His running out of fuel gave ,e a win there ;) really nice guy. So laid back you can see his soles lol

  4. Yeah I know him quite well see him most weekends I'm at Parkinson's, we do av a laugh, I'm thinking about getting on the scene next season so I don't have to track the multi, but honestly though bradders before I binned it I was going well then got a bit wet that's why I want a track bike haha, no worries of kitty litter!! How you been anyway I was looking at your old pics on dsc of you wheelying up the mountain I think??

  5. Yeah probably, not many on a DD bike like me ;)

Tbh tho as you get faster the multi is not a track bike. Sure, I would have been front end inters, and wasn't back end adv group tbh, but you find the limits quite quickly of clearance, and its a lumpy bike so all the sports bikes, and 1200 monsters, stomp away and past on straights. Its fun for a wheils, but by lunchtime for me was just frustrating. Much slower riders blop past, brake too early and means you end up rolling off, give yourself space then a lap later same again with another.

You will get similar with a Dd bike except you can carry a load more corner speed than a multi imho and if someone blocks you from a straight you can just go round the outside mid corner ;)

  6. I would agree Bradders, a full on sports bike will always be faster on track.
I took my R1 to cadwell a few years back and realised how little of its performance you can use on the road safely, compared to on the track.
for me, spending ~5k or less on an R1 or blade as a track bike makes far more sense than risking a ~15k multi.

In comparison I did a couple of adv sessions following a DD guy back in 2010 around cadwell on the DSC track day on the multi.
I forget his name now - might be Paul, think his bike was yellow ? (not that that helps much ;) )
He shared an easiup with Rattler anyway.

I could easily out accelerate him down the straights as you would expect, but it was actually more enjoyable following and learning from his lines, as it was my first time there. His corner speed was pretty much the same as mine. Having a bit of fun swapping positions on different bends was great, its not all about being fastest down the straight. If I used everything the multi had sensibly (road tyres, not wanting to bin it as I rode there) then I could leave him, but catch a bit of traffic and not want to bully my way through he was right back with me.

I then did a session with Tim on his 749s race bike. Eye opening or what !
He was on track rubber but even so his late braking and corner entry speed was real impressive.
Despite the greater power I had, he could pull lengths out of me around charlies and chris curves.
Talking about it makes me want to go do another track day :)

  7. A well ridden 50hp monster can do 1'50 round cadwell. Almost fast group pace. As a guide, most inters barely break 2 min

Sounds like Paul Payne...didnt crash did he? Lol

  8. Yeah, Paul Payne sounds about right.
    Nope, he didnt crash ;)
From what I recall there werent many crashes at all. Biggest problem was the lady whose monster dumped its oil around chris and through the goose neck. Someone, I forget who, said it was the only time she had been on line all day :D
Made that part of the track very entertaining for a few sessions.

  9. Bradders I mounted my go pro with the roll bar clamp on one of the suspension legs, as low as poss, and was shocked to still see that the front wheel was traveling around 6" upwards possible more sometimes and pushing the camera under the air intake housing to the Rad. what made it worse I was not even riding hard or breaking that hard or so I thought.

  10. That was Toni, lovely lines, not bad ass either ;)

Remember that day, last of the DSC ones I think? Maybe 2009??

  11. yep, was a DSC day, thinking about it I stayed in the same B&B as Chris Bushell and John Montgomery (Monty) who did a lot of the organising I think.
Would have been 2010, as I was on the MTS, it was only a couple of months old.

  12. Erm...red 848 for me I think..or maybe my black/yellow race monster. Probably the monster actually, old buzzbee #40
