I've just become the proud owner of some Pazzo levers for my 999, but how the hell do I get the old ones off? There's a pin coming out of the cylinder assy, which sits in a sort of 'dowel' that's in a recess in the OEM lever itself. The problem is the lever doesn't push forward far enough to clear the dowel, so I can't remove it - done lots of searches on here & various other places (including the workshop manual), can find other folks with the problem, but can't seem to find an answer. The closest i've found is details of 'drifting' out the main 'pivot pin' for the lever, but have only found people who've done that once the lever is already off the bar - any thoughts greatly appreciated...
On the bottom or top of what you are calling the dowel is a 2mm allen or hex head screw. Undo that and you can get the pin out
Thanks lock - I'll have a better look at the bottom of it tonight - I can see a small threaded 'hole' in the top of the dowel, but there's no screw in it (on the brake side). It also looks like the pin itself is threaded into the dowel - I'll see if I can get some photos on to show what I mean...
Okay the small allen or hex head is there to lock the pushrod pin in place. If yours is missing just unthread the pushrod pin out. Then take the lever off the bike and use a small socket or similar to drive the inner bush out.It comes out easy. The you will be able to remove the dowel. This lever is off an 1198 but they all use the same principal
That's really useful, ta - is the rubber that surrounds the 'non-dowel' end of the pushrod anything to worry about? I can turn the pushrod pin with a spanner, but it starts to twist the rubber 'boot' at the other end...
Struggling to remember what I did about the rubber boot. Will go have a look but will have to post back tomorrow. Dont destroy the boot if you can help it
thanks for all the help folks - sorted now. My worry was that the 'pin' that connects to the dowel was connected to the master cylinder somehow, hidden under the rubber boot. When I realised it's just a push rod & not phsically connected, I just pulled it out. Nelson's right - tis fiddly to put back. Drifting out the centre mount pins from the old levers meant i could separate the old levers & get the dowel & pin out complete, & just swap to the new pazzo ones. Now, if i could just work out how to upload pics from my ipad...
Have worked a way to get pics from an iPad but not necessarily the way... Create a folder in the gallery, using your iPad, then upload pics into it from your iPad. Then, using your windows computer if you have one, you can open the forum twice, so you have two minimised windows or tabs. You can then drag the pic from the gallery into a reply or thread-starting box in your second window or tab of the forum. If you drag the image to the tab of the second version of your forum, that will then open, so you can drop it in. Hope this helps...
They were a fleabay bargain -£43 - genuine Pazzo's too (although I can't see any difference with the Chinese ones I put on my Mille a couple of years ago & they were only £28)
The reservoir clamps in pic 2 are Chinese ones - £10.99 delivered from Hong Kong & only took 10 days to get here
I got some lever for £15-20.. yes they were the chinese one BUT they are as good a quality as the Pazzo ones and they do em in long and short styles (I have shorties) and for £15-20 who cares lol Brake Clutch Levers Ducati 999 749 1198/S/R 1098 848 S4RS Aprilia RSV MILLE/R B | eBay
+1 what Penfold said - this is my first set of supposedly 'premium' ones, after 4 different sets of chinese shorties for various other bikes, and these don't seem any different - i'll gladly go chinese again in future if i need some
