749 Voltage Reading When Riding.

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by DoctorW, Oct 25, 2014.

  1. Took bike out today - 70odd miles mostly on boring A12. All fine, but noticed the volt reading was moving from 13.6 to 13.7
Sometimes stayed at 13.7 for a while sometimes 13.6 and sometimes moved every few seconds between the two. Never noticed this before, but then again never really looked for it! Is this normal or signalling a problem? Cheers any thoughts.

  2. Looks about right DoctorW. I seem to remember that mine shows 14v once I have been riding for a few minutes. Naturally, after you have started the bike ,the battery voltage will be diminished, and it should continue to charge the battery back up to optimal level of around 14v.

  3. Thx for reply:upyeah:

  4. I fitted a battery monitor to my bike......the one with the light that changes from green, orange or red........

Wish I hadn't because whereas I normally rode the bike and didn't have a clue as to how much charge there was, now I'm distracted by the light and find I switch the headlight off when standing at traffic lights because the light goes red on tickover with lights on......

The only good thing that came out of it was that at certain speeds without the headlight on, it might be slightly overcharging.

  5. Technology eh lol!!

  6. Yeah mines the same Doc (749) When first switched on it shows 11.4 with a new battery fitted. After 1 minute the head light goes out if I don't start the motor and then shows 11.6. The moment I fire her up she shows 13.7 and may drop to 13.6 from time to time. I try not to look at it too but cant help myself most of the time. Would be better if Ducati replaced it with a outside temp gauge or something.

  7. You've got one of them already, just cycle through the right button settings and T AIR will come up.

  8. Thanks Mongoose and DoS - nice to know your bike is same as mine and good info:upyeah:

  9. Outside temp? I was wondering what the T AIR function was all about Duke. Do I need to turn it on some how or just select it ?

  10. Something else to worry about.

I might be wrong, but I seem to remember that the digital voltage display can only display a maximum of 14v whatever the voltage actually is!

Mongoose. To choose either voltage, air temp' or consumption indication: Press the rhs button (with ignition on) to cycle through choices. Page 14 in the manual.
