Hi, can someone help! After the bike had been parked up for a few weeks I decided to go out for a ride. It was low on fuel and as I was riding to the petrol station (cold engine, no wide throttle openings) I noticed a slight hesitation on opening the throttle - initially I thought it was out of gas, so took it really easy until I got to the pump - got there OK, topped up with fuel and then set off. Reluctance to accelerate hard remained, but with gentle acceleration it seemed fine. I cut the ride short and rode home where the bike promptly cut out at idle. Since I have started it a few times. I've also mixed some injector cleaner in the fuel. It will start, but is reluctant and it will cut out and then be really reluctant to start. If you crack the throttle (only a little - cold engine) it will rev slightly, but then hesitate and cut out. Sometimes if you press the starter for too long it will backfire. At idle it sounds OK, then lumpy (er than is normal) and sounds like its only firing on 1 cylinder perhaps. It has Termi cans and a race ECU, other than that its standard and has only covered 2400 miles (although its a 2009 bike). I've tried to research this on the internet, but thought I'd see what people on here thought!!
its f*cked...sell it to me..cheap its the unleaded fuel with the ethanol i expect. always run super if you can. may have blocked up the injectors, fuel filter, fuel pump etc strip it down, get the injectors cleaned and checked, change the fuel filter. Or sell it to me for £500
Try a new £1.99 relay for the pump/injector/coils. It is the rear one on the side of the battery box. Or sell it to me for £501
Thanks guys - I do tend to use super, although not always. Is it relatively easy to get to the filter, pump etc? Chrisw - do you have a part number for that relay please?
thanks bootsam - I will take it off for comparison and pop to Halfords then replace and cross fingers!!
If the problem started right after you fitted the cans then I would put money on the TPS and gas settings. If the problem came later then you are looking at another scenario.
The problem came later - about a year later, so I guess I will pursue the relay and fuel system drain/clean options. Thanks.
Thanks ChrisW - going to try to do this today in the hope that a. It works and b. The weather buck up enough to go out for a ride!
I had a similar issue a while back where I had parked the bike up for a while in the garage and when i tried to go out for a ride it would't have any of it. Turned out to be one of the spark plugs.
These relays are proving hard to find! Halfords don't have them and 2 other bike shops have said no. Do I really need a trip to a ducati dealer?! How difficult is it to change spark plugs at home? I've got it stripped down enough to take the tank off - underneath looks a bit scarey!
I get mine off eBay 4 Pin 'Normally Open' contact MICRO Relay - 20A | eBay Do you have a local towbar/trailer company nearby? Try them.
