I use a modified plastic one with and underseat breather box. A hammer and a punch remove remove the reed assembly and make it s straight through section.
plastic one fine then. Split it and aruldite (sp) the reed valve in. I will take some pics tomorrow of my nodded one.

I made a couple of these, the ally bodied version is easier as you can fold the end of the ally sleeve around the innards so that it is virtually the same as the OEM (but now extinct) corse breather. Here's one I made earlier;
