Re-sticking Mesh In Seat Unit

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Cream_Revenge, Nov 14, 2014.

  1. Hey

The mesh in my tail unit of my 996 is falling out, it looks like someone has used all sorts to stick it previously.

Any recommendations for the best glue (or other) to use?

    Cheers

  2. Hot glue gun?

    • Agree Agree x 1
  3. hot glue, or clear silicon

  4. Silicon is best. doesn't melt.

  5. Silicon like you put round the bath?

It looks like the last owner tried hot glue and some brown putty after that. Neither worked.

  6. Yes. Clear is better than coloured.

  7. Ive used silicone in the past, whatever is laying around.

  8. I wouldn't recommend this the zorsts heat will melt it, flexible epoxy or silicone

  9. Used black silicon bath sealant. Has lasted over 10 years with no problems whatsoever.

  10. Silicon it is, cheers guys

  11. That went reasonably well. Bit messy on the inside but should stick well. Looks good from outside but need to spend 20 mins with a pin cleaning up a bit of spillage.

  12. I've just done this on the seat unit and nose fairing. Double sided sticky tape and hot glue works well.

  13. Not sure about hot glue due to the exhaust heat as mentioned above, probably fine in the nose cone. I used to work as a blind fitter many years ago and they had hot glue to stick the bottom of the vertical blinds. That would melt the glue from the heat of the sun through the glass.

  14. Please excuse my English disintegrating in the last sentence.

  15. Fair comment. Don't know how the set up is on the 996, I mean distance between exhaust and mesh. Seems fine on the 848. Will remember to check it every now & then. :upyeah:

  16. If you mess it up don't worry as I am sure you will stick your fingers through it more often than not when cleaning the seat unit and polishing.
