  1. Hi
I am going to service the hyp & need to know if I balance throttle bodies (vacuum gauge) do i need to connect to ecu with a pc, I read the TPS can self reset with 3 ignition on/off cycles, can anyone confirm this, if I need to connect does JPDiag work?
    Any info advice depreciated
    cheers

  2. As far as I know the Evo engine uses the Siemens ECU so JPDiag isn't going to connect to it. Balancing the throttle bodies shouldn't affect the TPS as long as the butterfly with the TPS on it is still returning to the throttle stop.

  3. OK, stop is on r/h body, TPS is on the left, looks like the adjuster moves the l/h butterfly tps side. Can any one confirm the TPS self reset with 3 ignition on/off cycles?
If this doesn't I'm stuck as far as balancing goes then?

    cheers

  4. The workshop manuals says to reset the TPS using the DDS "diagnostic instrument". If it self reset after 3 on/off cycles I'm sure it would say so.
Throttle body balance and idle stop would appear to be set up at the factory and there is no documented procedure for resetting them. Sorry I can't help.

  5. I've just been reading up about the Seimens ECU and you are right, the TPS does and auto-reset after 3 on/off cycles. So it looks like you'll be ok.

  6. The throttles are set and sealed on assembly. You don't need to touch any part of them. Balance, TPS etc. are all set and covered in tamperproof paint. Idle is controlled by the ECU. TPS is auto calibrated.

  7. I saw the blue seal/paint on the adjuster, but I requested a throttle body ballance at 2nd service as I felt they were out a tad, I was told they re-balanced & it was muck better, so I will rebalance, seal or no seal.

Derek, I did this reset & it did seem better, or did I imagine it!!!

Where are you reading up Derek? have you got a link?

    cheers

  8. You can effect a small amount of vacuum adjustment/balance by using the air bleed screws in the throttle bodies. I wouldn't play around with the throttle stops or linkage screws..

  9. Yes, but they don't always do it right Nelly. I've seen 2 SR4s Monsters where the TPS angle wasn't set correctly from the factory. One was so bad that it ran really badly at small throttle openings to the extent that the owner was going to sell it and buy something else. You could reset the TPS until you were blue in the face and it would make no difference. It was mechanically set at 1.8º, it should have been 2.6º. Setting it properly transformed the bike and the owner has now decided to keep it.
I just did a google on it Chris and came up with plenty of references to the auto-reset on the ukmonsters forum and Ducatims

  10. OK, so the opinion is, I can reset TPS using describe method, I can ballance throttles using air bleed screws & leave the linkage compensator as factory set.
Happy days, where is the best source of shims online with quick delivery, as I need to service in the shortest time (this is my main transport), I dont know what shims are in so need to determine what sizes are required & order.
