748 Light Bulbs

  1. I'm looking to replace my candle esq standard light bulbs on my 2002 748 over the winter months.

I don't want to go down the HID route, just brighter bulbs & de-mist the lense.

Can anyone recommend some reasonably priced aftermarket bulbs please?

    Thanks

  2. I went HID on my 998 and love the difference. Literally night and day.

  3. Ring, make bright white bulbs. Halfords stock them or try eBay. Straightforward replacement over a stock bulb and they do work and draw no extra power.

  4. Thanks to you both for replying. I didn't want to go down the HID route. That's definitely above my basic skill level!

I'll give the Ring bulbs a try.

    Thanks

  5. I tried brighter bulbs, slight improvement - like having two candles rather than one. Still not up to the job of night time use IMO.

35W HID in dip beam is far, far brighter than any +50%, +100% (or whatever bulb) you can buy and uses less current to boot.

  6. I picked mine up at ddmtuning.com. They were relatively inexpensive and the install was straightforward. It did require removing the front fairing and trimming the rubber caps for the headlights. I also cleaned out the inner headlight glass at the same time. Huge improvement!

  7. I put some 55/90W bulbs in mine. FFS don't go down that route. Flicking from headlight to main beam and the headlight went out straight away but main beam took a few seconds to warm up so it was all pitch black just when i wanted more light. :Nailbiting:

  8. Scary!

  9. I don't if yours, being a later model, has headlight relays?

Mine didn't and the power simply goes through the switch and (marginal) wiring. Along with fitting the HID to the low beam I fitted relays to both low and high (HID needs it as voltage drop causes it to 'stall').

The relays are switched by the switch and then use heavy gauge wiring from battery to headlight. This alone made the high beam light both brighter and quicker on, I have a 100w bulb in the high beam and it is instantly on and considerably brighter than a 55w (though not as bright as a 35w HID).

Also if your bike has the either/or system of low or high beam? (the old models did) then a simple switch mod will make it so that the low beam stays on when high beam is switched - you need this for HID as they are slow to power up and don't like too many off/ons.
