1199 Lets Face It, The Mirrors Are Crap.

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Sam1199, Dec 1, 2014.

  1. Well they are crap unless you're standing still or just want to see your elbows.
Has anyone come up with a successful solution?
I noticed at the show last week that the new 1299 has shorter stuby mirrors that don't fold in,
so even Ducati realise they are no use.

I'm thinking of a bar end mirror maybe even with an integrated indicator.
    Anyone else tried this?

  2. I thought the way the RC-V mirrors were installed was interesting. Mounted with those lever protectors.

  3. The best thing about them is that they fold away! I can get through narrower gaps in traffic on the Panigale than most of the Scooters in London!

  4. There a lot better than on the 848/1198. Still not perfect but a damned improvement.

  5. My 1198 ones are okay. Better marginally than 916 ones. I thought the Pani ones were pretty good for a ducati.

  6. i thought the 1199 mirrors were amazing compared to a 848.

  7. No, you can't see a damn thing in them once you get going. I quite like the design of them and love the fact that they
fold in but 'form should follow function'... and they just don't function like they should. I think I'll attach them to the bathroom cabinet so my wife can use them for her makeup. One each side.

I figure a bar end mirror designed to sit above your knuckles shouldn't add to the width, but it has to look good.
I'll design something n see what you guys think.
Interesting that the previous models mirrors were even worse.

  8. I don't think this is just a panigale problem. The street triple r was just as bad above 20mph.

  9. my lil bar end ones on the 748 are ok.. not great but a better (albeit smaller) view than the standard ones but at least i dont have to contort to get the view. dont vibrate much either

  10. My SS was no better
Often saw the Tarmac or my elbows and the vibration made me feel bike sick
Altogether now let's do the funky chicken

  11. I quite liked the idea of a screen somewhere and a rear view camera but the screen would probably look shite rammed in somewhere and I don't know if it would be legal ?

  12. do you need mirrors for an mot? as when my mate took mine for one it only had one mirror and apparently the guy told him it should have either two mirrors or none? (he did pass it though)

  13. This is where my pennies are going when they get their fingers pulled out and get it released.

  15. I was thinking something like one of these two for example or maybe bar end indicators. ( On the Duke of course).
It looks a lot sleeker that the earlier shot of the Honda.

  16. I ve got mirror extenders on can see better but as I need to fold them to get in my house work loose at hinge and can't be tightened . Just bought bar end mirror to try keep u posted .

  17. I've warmed up to the thought of round mirrors, what do you guys think?
1 piece mirrors and bar end indicators dropped into existing photo.
Anyone interested in getting some made up?

  19. If you think the 899/1199 ones are bad you should have tried the 848/1098 ones :)

  20. Amazing what winter weather, bike on rest and an idle mind can do. :)). I recently moved from a Zx6r to the pani and while the mirrors do blur a little with engine vibration, it's part of the charm and as they say it " feature of the product". It's actually not that bad.
