I will be using the talents of my friendly Honda trained mechanic to check the valves on my 7.5 k miles 1098s o7. soooo any tips and any measurement we should be aiming for??????? I aim to strip the bike and remove the cylinder heads myself. cheers jean grey xmen
There is absolutely no need to remove the heads, you will give yourself a lot of work and need to buy expensive new head gaskets. The clearances are; Opening rocker - intake 0.13÷0.18 mm : checking - 0.10 to 0.25 mm Opening rocker - exhaust 0.13÷0.18 mm : checking - 0.10÷0.25 mm Closing rocker - intake 0.05÷0.10 mm : checking - 0.05÷0.25 mm Closing rocker - exhaust 0.05÷0.10 mm : checking - 0.05 to 0.25 mm They should be set to the 1st figure but are permissible between the 2nd values. The shims come in 0.05 mm increments, so only adjust the clearances that are out by more than that from the optimum. If you've never done desmo valve clearances before I'd highly recommend a read of this book
That book has huge shipping charges but oh well... I plan to do my belts etc on my 916 and maybe have a look at the valve gear and a few other bits.
