Yoke And Triple Clamp Machining

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by rayboy, Dec 6, 2014.

  1. Hi does anyone know a good machining company preferably in the south of England but will send anywhere in the UK if they are recommended by a forum member.

I need to get my Fork Yoke and lower Triple clamp machined out to accommodate larger diameter fork stations....my other option is to get a complete set of top and bottom set made.

So doe anyone know or recommend a company that could do either option? I'd rather go for someone's knowledge of this having done / used before than going round a number of local engineering companies getting the run-around your help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Ray.

  3. Perhaps if you put what forks you want to fit to what bike, people may be able to give you a better idea of the options. ;)

  4. Would it be easier to use stock yokes but have a custom stem machined up ?

  5. Hi Guys thanks for the responses...

Nelson, thanks for the recommendation I will give them a call tomorrow....

This is what I want to do....

I have a pair of 2014 Monster 1200s Ohlins 48mm forks and want to put them on my 848 SF, original fork stanchion outside diameter is 53mm top and bottom, the Ohlins are 57mm outside diameter, 1mm bigger than the Ohlins forks fitted to the SF 1098s.

I have a bottom Triple Tree from a SF 1098S which has an inside diameter of 56mm so only need to take out about 1mm, the problem is the top Yoke which will need 5mm taken out so may be a little too much hence having a custom one made.

I have the option of getting the original Monster 1200s Top Yoke but will need to do some fettling to get it to fit especially the steering damper but may be the easier option.

  6. Ray, where abouts are you?
Are you still in need of a machinist?

  7. Hi Sev I'm in Sandhurst Berkshire but travel around the UK with work.

And yes I am still looking for a machinist.

  8. Ray, give Simon Cavey a call at formula machining just outside of Dorking, he's ex McLaren and is a bloody good machinist.

The other bloke you could try is down at dunsfold just outside of the airfield on the A281 side

See how you go with them, and if you're still having trouble when I'm back to work next Thursday I'll dig out a few more for you.

Keep us posted on how you get on :)

  9. Hi Sev thanks or the info I will give them both a call later in the week...

Couple of other things I will need is a front wheel spindle as the Shoulder is a different size...will have a look at the bearing diameters to see if another model spindle will fit....will check when I'm back home at the weekend

Funny I used to work at Dunsfold aerodrome back in the 90's...be a trip down memory lane :)

Thanks again and will keep you posted.

  10. Both ray and simon will be able to turn that up in no time for you if necessary.

Ray is in that farmstead on the left as you come in from the Cranleigh crossroads on the 281 :)

  11. OK thanks....So is that the road heading towards the aerodrome, I think I remember the Farmstead.

  12. so cross roads at cranleigh on the A281, which is the airside runway entrance,

heading from guildford you turn right and you follow the road around. On the left hand side half way down before you reach that U bend in the road and the road to the airfield proper there's a farm and he's in there. Best ring him first though!

  13. Got it ....know exactly where you mean....will call him later in the week.

    Thanks
