Possible Headlight Issue

  1. I went out for a ride today and noticed that my low-beam lamp was not working :-/ I figured it was blown bulb so when I got home I thought I'd check the bulb, after taking off the cover off I twisted and moved the bulb about and it lit up for a few moments but then went out again.

So I took the bulb out and it looks fine, I have also checked the bulb for continuity and all is well.

Now I'm thinking there is a problem with the wiring loom leading to the socket. Anyone got any ideas? I'm pretty green when it comes to electrical systems etc... Not sure what to do next.

    Cheers

  2. The filament could have broken and be making an intermittent connection. Don't assume it isn't the bulb.

Also check for a corroded connection at the bulb.

  3. It would be worth bunging a spare bulb in to check. Then check all conections for tightness.

  4. I have the bulb here now and holding it up to the light I can see the filament inside and it looks perfect. As I said when I stick it on my multimetre to check for continuity it's100% fine. The two blade connectors on the rear are like new and the plug is a nice tight fit with no corrosion either.

When I took the cover off the rear the inside of it was gleaming no moisture etc...

I think I'll try a spare bulb tomorrow to see how it turns out. Maybe something intermittent with the bulb that isn't visable. I'm not sure if the bulb I took out is the original or not, the make is 'Mtec' MT-474 (H11 12v / 55w) The glass is tinited chrome blue, I'm guessing not OEM.

  5. Sometimes filaments can break, then weld together again but once broken they will fail again soon.

  6. Most definitely not - Construction and Use section of the Road Traffic Act ........ blah-de-blah-de-blah. Andy

  7. Since you have a multimeter, check that there is 12v at the wiring that the bulb plugs into.

  8. Try swapping the headlight relay too, they are practically a consumable on many recent Ducs.
