Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by TTonup, Dec 23, 2014.

  1. hi,, planing on taking my wheels off next,, i can see the rather large ( larger than any of my sockets ) nut on the front and rear,, can anyody tell me what size they are and are they both the same size,, gonna have to buy then in the morn or stuck until afte rxmas,, ta Rod

  2. Rear - 36mm - 180nm Torque
    Front - 25mm - 63nm Torque

  3. Loz are you sure it's 25mm , I seem to remember its 28mm

I could easily be wrong though.

  4. I was just going by the notes I have. If it is 28mm, I apologise!

    edit: Just checked, I'm sure it's 25mm.

  6. been advised it is 28 / 36.., thanks boys...

  7. get a vernier gauge; you'll need one anyway to check / setup your clutch...

  8. thanks mate,, but if I had a vernier I would not have had to ask on here,, and I have no intention of going anywhere near my clutch as yet,,;)

  9. hi again,, yep 28 and 36 it is,,,,,,,,,,,,
    ???????????? now is.
about to remove the wheels,, bit of advice needed,,
rear first, is it best to slack off the adjusters before cracking the main spindel nut , or not,,
front,, again is it the clamps first or spindle nut first..
dont want to get it wrong and damage anything,,,,,, thanks Rod

  10. Serious question - are 749 and 999 spindles the same size? I assumed they are.

I need to know whether I should junk my notes :)

  11. cant speak for 999 but the 28 n 36mm sockets fit my 749s,,,, any advice on my q ?

  12. Crack the spindle nuts off first. Fork pinch bolts will help hold spindle in place. Rear doesn't really matter as spindle held in place by the block on end of spindle. Also remove brake calipers before removing the spindles and wheels.
Front spindle might be tight and need some persuasion with a suitable size socket, extension bar and mallet as a drift.
Also when refitting front make sure you have the hole on the left hand side of the spindle in vertical position. Hold it in place with the tool in the Ducati tool bag or alternatively a screwdriver. This will then allow access to the fork compression damping adjustment screws.

  13. Front brake calipers removal are bit tricky for first time. Lift back straight then turn slightly to get it past the wheel rim. Also best use a rag over the caliper to prevent scratching the rim.

  14. Fork pinch bolts torque is 19nm and brake caliper bolts 43nm. On reassembly tighten front spindle nut then fork pinch bolts are last ones to tighten.

  15. thanks Nev,, why do i have to take the calipers off ?

  16. woooops,, i can see now that the wheel wont clear them !!!

  17.
  18. hahaha,,,, back wheel off , caliper hub wheel etc all cleaned up,, red strpe on ( ? ) and refitted, chain tensioned up etc,,, happy happy !!

  19. I recommend to tighten the pinch bolts on the opposite side to the spindle nut first; as it stops the spindle from turning as you tighten the spindle nut; then tighten the spindle nut; then tighten the other pinch bolt...
