word of warning to anyone expecting a delivery from ebay or elsewhere by City Link. they have been put into receivership as of today 25th. according to the BBC web site , they are retaing a few people to RETURN parcels,no mention of delivering parcels they allready have., only returning.... if this affects you contact seller or if sending by City Link contact buyer or risk negative feedback. Ebay already know
Sad news for their employees - might affect the Royal Mail share price too (for those who got a couple of hundred in the sell-off)
To be fair to management I expect they have been fighting it for ages. The receiver or judge decides when.
no no... the management/directors appoint the receiver...they've pumped the christmas delivery market..got the overtime out of the staff.. then gone bust on christmas day...not nice

Crappy time of year to happen, but if they couldn't generate additional income leading up to Christmas, then the writing was on the wall. Thoughts to the employees
Never a good time, feel for everyone involved. Investors are extremely unlikely to realise much of the debt, everyone else needs a job. We have never used them, clearly not enough people did or their costs were too high. Now I think of it never heard or saw a City Link rep visit us at work.
I worked for a Citylink franchise very briefly a good few years ago. Worst and most thankless job I've ever had. 10-12 hour shifts five days a week plus Saturdays for a very poor flat rate. No overtime, no bonuses but plenty of chaos, pressure and hassle. The only perk was you got to take your van home at night because they had nowhere to park them at the depot. If that experience was representative I'm amazed they've lasted this long. On the plus side for employees, Citylink contracts have to go somewhere and more work for the rest of the industry means more staff. Might be a blessing in disguise for some: they might find themselves working for a decent company.
By the sound of it,crap management:there is plenty of money in parcels if you have the right business model I've had a contract with a different parcels company for years,(the only general haulage job we do) The rate we get is very fair,they've just invested multi-millions in a new hub in the Midlands,and the management team is tiny...considering it's a multi-million pound business,I'll be there are no more than 30 people in the offices. City Link set themselves up to be a competitor to Royal Mail,but RM have a monopoly on letters less than a certain amount. Talking about business models,why doesn't someone bring back Red Star? Best long distance delivery method ever invented,I must have spent years of my life queueing at Kings Cross/St Pancras Red Star back in my courier days,waiting for everything from Solicitors documents to Porsche parts...£3.50 an hour waiting time was good money back then LOL
It's terrible for the employees to have to listen to this news on Christmas Day. I can only guess that management tried to generate as much cash flow as they could in the run-up to Christmas and decided to call it a day. I don't know the details so I can't criticise the bosses and I don't know how much their staff know about this in the run-up to the festive season. However, I would have thought management could have devised a better way to handle it.
i can criticise the management.......too many managers, lack of investment, ill informed staff, poor customer relations, lack of direction......smacks to me of a typical british management cluster..
We have several of these parcel firms deliver to our work place, they all have their good days and bad days, I have never had one that is consistent with their deliveries. I feel sorry for the staff, its never good being made redundant especially this time of year.
