You, living at place XYZ, have insured your car/bike model ABC for a few years with insurer MNO for a consistent price. But it just so happens that during the past year several other residents of place XYZ have had their ABCs stolen or crashed, which has obliged insurer MNO to make some big payouts. As a result, the algorithm which calculates the risks has worked out that you are a much bigger risk than was previously thought. So the premium doubles this year. Or another explanation is: they thought they would try and shaft you because they might get away with it, and it was worth a shot.
Scenario One did occur to me but I am unconvinced. I'm fairly sure that the data for a given location that is fed into the algorithms of the various insurers are much of a muchness - but perhaps that's not the case? Does each insurer only rely upon data relating to his own small customer base? Hmm. Scenario Two seemed the most likely on the face of it - but why has insurer "MNO" decided to not only not drop the quote once rumbled, but on one memorable occasion, actually chosen to increase the fucker? Smacks of anti-competitive business practices to me.
I havn't put up a post yet as the process is not quite complete but I got a Merc stuck in my leg a few months back and MCE have been excellent. The damage to the bike was fairly minimal but turned out to be very expensive purely down to a few scratches on expensive parts and MCE were faultless. I've no doubt my policy will take a big hike next year but seeing as I was considering dealing with the payout myself to not get insurance involved until the bill got too high , it has saved me thousands. I didn't realise you get the BSB extras, might have to take advantage of that
I keep seeing this thread as "Mice insurance". You can get anti-weasel insurance here. I kid you not.
If you look closely at the picture I think you can see why you need Mice insurance....those short shorts don't offer much protection.
Here as in Swiss Cheese Land or here as in on the forum? Although the premiums for anti-weasel insurance on the forums are probably astronomical ...
Swiss cheese land. It's not really weasel insurance. It's actually marten insurance (but as there aren't any martens in England and they are similar beasts..). Martens are common in Switzerland and are attracted to the rubber bits of cars - brake lines, fuel lines and the like. They eat them, resulting in mechanical breakdown (or worse). They probably quite like the warmth of car engines too, in winter. Your insurance cover, if it is any good, will cover you for marten damage. I've never had any problems, but neighbours have. It has been postulated that having a dog regularly in your car keeps the martens at bay.
Yeah...we have them too, but they are called RATS.... My ST205WRC (No.1) rally car suffered a 100% write off due to the little furry F*ckers.
I hope we get a new dog. But the car is garaged, so the "fouines" can't really start munching much of it these days anyway. When I lived in Lausanne, the car parked on the next space to mine did get eaten.
Been with Ducati, aka Ramesis, for two years. Very pleased with price and service. Highly recommended.
