Looking for an alarm clock and came across this one, RRP £18.99 and has bids of £20 + postage Why not just go and buy it from the shop at RRP then?? Digital Alarm Clock Blue, Large Display, RRP £18.99 | eBay
As it happens I've sold a lot of stuff above list price on ebay . Usually where the buyer hasn't got a store locally to buy them, and said store doesn't offer a mail order service. For instance,I had some x-type keyboard stands which were £19.99 in Currys etc,but folk were paying up to £30 + postage etc to buy them from me,because I could be bothered to pack them up and send them to the buyer, who in every case gave me positive feedback. Usually went to out of the way places like the Outer Hebrides though,so no surprise really
I've done the same but usually the big payers are foreigners. It's easier for them to buy off ebay than deal with a language barrier to buy from a retailer. You do get some weird ones, like sending Mk1 Cortina rear lights to Thailand, wouldn't of thought they'd know what one of those was....and if they had them wouldn't have thought they'd survive the humidity. My most stupid one was a guy from Italy who bid quite high on a Jaguar headlight......bet he was annoyed once he'd had the hassle of fitting it only to find out it dipped to the wrong side for Italy! He bid so his problem, should have asked before the auction ended.
I sold a classic Triumph push bike to somewhere in Indonesia, real old thing,I think the guy decorated his restaurant with them.He sent a courier who wrapped it carefully and everything, must have cost a fortune. Was hoping,(ever the optimist,me!) to make a fortune exporting old tackle out there, but sadly,it was just a one-off
I live in Thailand and old British & Aussie model cars are surprisingly quite popular. The Thai lads (& ladies) can be quite passionate about their cars and bikes, just like us Western mortals
