so I made it to Ducati in Alton and bought myself an SP with a very good price including a high-level termi (tried without the db killer this thing is BLOODY loud!) and a good discount. the 60 miles ride back at 5 degrees was quite a start! I'm chuffed although I'm wondering if I should put on winter tyres: any suggestions? What do you guys think? I also had a radiator guard fitted and some crush bobbins (both Evotech)
I've never used those so can't comment on their winter performance. Perhaps others have experience though. I always use Michelins. On PR4s now and very pleased with them in terms of wear and grip, wet and dry.
Thanks I've seen some reviews of the PR4s and they look like a great set of tyres. Is it a costly job to have tyres replaced? Would you have this done at a dealer only?
I would never go to a dealer. Plenty of tyre specialists around. I paid £330 for a pair fitted, including balancing, in summer 2013, which was a bit toppy. I think £280-£300 should achievable.
Don't think they do. My place is near Kingston Hospital but I think you can get them a lot cheaper elsewhere. Maybe ask people on the forum for recommendations.
Yep - had them on my RSV4 - absolutely amazing tyre in the dry - ill definitely be getting more - but, and its a big one, damn near dangerous in the wet or cold weather, even moreso when they start to wear.... Ive got Metzeler M7RR's on my RSV4 now but will be going back to the SC's as it never ever gets used during the wet or cold weather....
Tread clears water - that's what it's for (apart from making the tyres look cool in some patterns). Your tyres have almost no tread, so you'd think they'd be pretty poor in the wet. If you think you're going to be a lot of riding in the wet and damp, then swapping to "treadier" tyres would seem to be a wise idea. A zillion people will be along to tell you which they prefer, so I won't bother.
Yep - as above - that's why I made the suggestion of the Metzeler's - its a good all round tyre - had good reviews, and theyre pretty reasonably price (my reason for getting them) - but rightly so - you have to make your own choice....
[QUOTE="comfysofa, post: 504288,but will be going back to the SC's as it never ever gets used during the wet or cold weather....[/QUOTE] Always possible to be caught out in a rainstorm though so I prefer to be prepared. PR4's have more than adequate dry grip too. Very confidence inspiring.
Not sure what you meant by that but the metzelers are on my RSV4 - my hyper has Pirelli's on, but not SC's the rsv4 will be getting SC's again definitely...
Just meant that although a bike may never be taken out in the rain you can always get caught out. I got caught in an unexpected cloudburst on Bodmin Moor once without waterproofs and with nowhere to shelter had no option but to push on. Oh how we laughed ... several weeks later!
Yep - agreed also....which is one of the reason I went with the Metzelers - I got caught in the rain on the RSV one day last year, and, its was scary....but now ive got the metzelers on I wish Id got more SC's although the next set I get im gonna try a 200 rear...just to see what its like....as glid said you can listen all day to tyre recommendations but you need to try them yourself....tried the metzelers and theyre ok but not as good as the SC's which is almost worth the trade off for the bad weather aspect....for the difference id put up with getting caught out once in a while...if it were to happen...
Not a Hyper but heavy rain on 3000miles old SuperCorsas can go from 'entertaining' through to downright scary on Passa della Futa between Bologna and Florence. @MissPineapple was on new Pirelli Angel GT on her GSXR600 and was a lot more comfortable and a fair bit quicker than I was.
