998 Didn't Know This Rep Was Factory.

  1. I don't think it is for one minute - the advert doesn't say so either - it's just a deliberate mis-leading advert :)

  2. dont think the renegade paint job was ever a factory

only 998s Bostrom and Baylis were factory AFAIK

possibly Jon Reynolds Redbull too in this country (might have been a dealer ship special) but not sure

  4. not from factory.
sometimes you could have some limited models per country that where made by the importer.
did you guys in the UK not had a 996 in the INS livery?

    henk!!!

  5. I'd agree no such model sold by a Ducati but dealer\s may have commissioned the job themselves as a one off type of thing. Michael Rutter and Leon Haslam rode for the team on 998RS' as I recall. They have a model of the Rutter bike for sale in these colours but currently out of stock, £40 plus!!

  6. It was, although I think it was a UK company painted them for Ducati UK.

  7. There's a difference between genuine "factory" and genuine Ducati...

There are very few genuine factory paint jobs - that is to say the ones that come out of the factory and are available all over the world. These include things like the Bayliss 998 rep, the Bostrom 998 rep, Fila 999R, Matrix 998, etc.

The next level down are those which are still genuine Ducati but are local to a region. For example, the UK got the Foggy 996SPS rep (via Moto Cinelli), the Hodgson 996 rep (DUK) and the Red Bull 996SPS (DUK). These were all "official" Ducati designs and distributed to dealers, but were not from the "factory" like that - they were all painted/stickered in the UK.
Another recent example is the 1199S Panigale Senna rep, which was only available in Brazil, or the Nicky Hayden 848 rep that was US only.

Then you have dealer specials, where they may paint one or more bike to be a replica, and sell it as new. There were a couple of "Rossi MotoGP" reps that were up for sale, but these are done by dealers and not DUK/regional importer.

At the bottom you have the crappy ebay sticker kit brigade ;)

    HTH :)

  8. A few dealers had limited runs of special paint jobs done. But if you gave the frame number to Ducati and ordered a fairing panel it'd turn up red.

  9. The Bostrom is at the top of my list. I love the look.

  10. The Air Waves 999 / 749 was DUK - but an awful scheme :Wideyed:
