Water Pump Impeller

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by densel16, Jan 20, 2015.

  1. Just had side cove off to lighten flywheel and managed to break 2 blades off the impeller. Can I buy it seperately, if not, can I knock it out with the shaft, has anyone got one spare?

  2. Several impellers on eBay so the answer to your first question is yes, which means you shouldn't need to try and repair the damage. Someone hopefully will be along soon with an answer to your last question. Andy

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  3. The impeller can be knocked out of the bearing after you've removed the wire circlip, also note which way round the spacer is as it has a recess for the clip to sit in.

  4. Wire circlip?? Just looked on eBay and they all seem to be in USA. Anyone from the uk, on here got one, or no where I can get one that won't cost me £60?cheers

  5. You have PM !

  6. There are different types of impeller depending on whether it is single phase or 3 phase. The impeller also needs to be shimmed correctly. From the photo it looks like you have a 4 bolt early side casing, has a bolt snapped off as well?

  7. You also have a 2-phase system ;)

  8. I have a 3 phase alternator. 5 wires with 3 yellow. No snapped nuts

  9. Trying to find a photo. There are photos of my rotor and windings in previous posts. My bike is. 2000, built in 1999

  10. From the first pic you posted there are only two yellow wires on the alternator loom coming from the side cover...

I thought I had a spare impeller as I had to replace that side case after losing the alternator nut, but as it turns out I only bought the case and transferred the impeller to the new case! Sorry.

  11. If you look closely antonye the third wire is behind the two wires running from the top right to the bottom left.

  12. Well that's my regulator image.jpg

  13. Sorry to be a pedant but you mean single phase (2-wire). Never seen a 2-phase system (which would need at least 3 wires) on a bike.

Anyway that doesn't help the OP. I needed one for a 1098 ages ago and couldn't find one in the UK. Got one from Gotham Cycles in the states. Service was good and quick and I certainly didn't pay £60.

    What about this for £35 inc p&p: Ducati Water Pump Fan Impeller 748 748S 748R 996 996S 996SPS Impellor | eBay

Ok you might get clobbered for import duty, personally only had to pay once myself despite plenty of orders from the states.

  14. I had seen that? But like I said, didn't want to get one from the states. I think I'm sorted now thanks!

  15. It's very easy to use a 3-wire regulator on a 2-wire (single phase, sorry @Danger Mouse!) bike by either tying two of the yellow wires together or by leaving them open, so looking at the regulator means nothing!

It's what comes out of your alternator windings bolted inside the cover that counts.

  16. just going up to my garage after picking my lightened flywheel from the engineering shop. I will send photos of my wires.!!!!

  17. image.jpg As I said, three phase, three wires.

  18. image.jpg Machined flywheel. 1.5kg total.
