Immobiliser Help

  1. Fairings off and clocks disconnected
Am changing oil so came to try start it to warm oil but nothing
Therefore reconnected clocks and still wont start
The yellow key light flashes 3 times then stays lit but bike wont turn over
    I guess its immobilised?
Do I need to reprogram keys?
    Thanks
    Is an ST3

  2. Don't know much about the alarms, have you checked if its in gear, sidestand switch & kill switch.

  3. Hard to diagnose not knowing what you have actually disconnected

Check the connections to the aerial around the ignition lock

The ECU is protected by a 3amp fuse check it hasn't blown

  4. Yes it sounds immobilised as the light stays on, but you could always override it with the key code.
This is the 5-digit code that is on a credit-card sized card in with all your other stuff... if you've got it!
Procedure to do it is in the owner's manual.

But check as Chris says above as it's probably the aerial that is disconnected or has dropped down inside the ignition key cover and is not reading the key.

  5. Only thing disconnected was the clocks and indicators but clocks reconnected now
If immobilised would it still crank on the switch? Thinking may be the switch as has been flaky in the past
Any way of bypassing that and trying it?
Will check the aerial and connections also

  6. If it's immobilised it won't crank.
If it is turning then pull out a plug and check if you have fuel going in (wet plugs) as it may be a fuel supply (pump fuse?) problem or similar.

  7. Nope not cranking at all
Will have another look tonight and see what i can find
Thing is, the switch has been dodgy before and its not been started for a while so ideally would like to rule that out as well just not sure how to without buying another

  8. Used the keycard and it now starts with it overridden
How do I check the immobiliser and its aerial?

  9. So if it starts off the keycard there's nothing wrong with the bike itself, just the immobiliser.
The most obvious problem is the aerial not getting the code from the key to the ECU.

The aerial is located inside the plastic cover of the ignition switch. Take off the two dome-head nuts and check the location and condition of the aerial. If the aerial drops out/down inside the cover it's not close enough to read the key.
If the aerial shows any sign of corrosion (dark/green appearing around the plastic seams) then you may need to replace it. You could swap it out for a known working one if you have another bike or friendly mate!
Failing that, check the connectors from the aerial as there's one around the headstock that is prone to getting water into it and stops it from working.
You may also have killed your key if you're very unlucky. Do you have another key you can try?

Does your bike live outside or is it currently wet/damp?
I washed my Hyper on saturday morning and, as usual, it triggered the immobiliser and I had to override with the code to start it. I left it in the garage until monday morning and it still wouldn't start. I rode to work and left it in the underground car-park all day, which is much warmer than my garage, and by the time I came to ride home it had obviously dried out and was working again.

    HTH.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  10. Yep looks like the antenna
There are two wires running to a connector and one looks to be cut
May have been like this since had it - assume the antenna was disabled without me knowing
Thanks Ant - will sort a new antenna and see if can then get immobiliser working !

  11. Definitely needs a new immobiliser aerial then! They're not too much - speak to Nelly at Cornerspeed as he'll get you one and does mail order.

Once it's fitted it'll hopefully start working but let us know either way!

  12. Part number 58140042B

Think I paid £20-£23 for one for my 1198

It was an order in part at Ducati Leeds
