where does it go....? Opening up clutch to look at push rod, took cover off, took first springs off, I look down on the floor and this is there, and I don't know where it came from...! Does it go on the end of the push rod?
Oh, I'm an idiot. All the other ones are stuck on so I didnt notice them. Muchly embarrassed. On another note, one last screw is playing silly beggars and isn't coming off. I'm so close to chewing the hex, any tips to get it off?
If you have torx bits try tapping the best fit into the head with a hammer it might work. or drill the head off the M5 allen screw so the p/plate can be removed then use a small set of mole grips on the little stub end you could use a little heat to. brian.
yets Its not impossible to push the collet and spring back to be able to get some mole grips onto the bolt, if you get the mole grips set to the correct size to grip really tight ,then lay them flat on the collet and put something over them like a piece of plate steel and push down you should be able to overcome the spring and squeeze the grips shut at the same time .The plate steel (or something similar stops you trapping your skin when you tighten the mole grips. I've done this before on clutch springs but not on a Duke ,so dont slip and fook anything up .
Thanks for your help Peter. I'll be going to wickes tomorrow to get a mole grip and some extractor bits.
I've used the above before.....The screw shouldn't be in too tight. Just a bit tricky pushing the collet back and garbing the top of the screw/bolt at the same time. Good luck.
Yeah same Nelson Although I didnt actually use the steel plate, ssshh, just didnt want him to trap his little self and blame me.
the screws are so small I would advise against tapered extractor bits that you hammer into broken bolts. I have had to dig too many broken extractors out of seized in bolts.
Well, I went to Protwins in Surrey to get some screws in anticipation of me doing a proper bodge job and Pete (who was nice and friendly) suggested I drill it off. Sounds like it happens a lot as he also said I should be using an impact driver for those bits. Lesson learned and at the same time, had a good look at the Panigale. It's tiny! I'll have a go using the mole grips tomorrow.
Dremel a slot in the top of the bolt and get an impact driver in there! Can't recall how tight the access is, you MAY be able to get a small 1mm stainess cutting disc in there with an angle grinder??
Yets, if you get the grips on the bolt making sure that its so tight that its crushing the bolt you should be alright. I would have serious reservations about using an impact driver ,those posts that the bolts go into arn't the strongest imo. i'd be surprised if you cant get it out using the grips ,failling that 470's suggestion would be the next step.
More often than not, if you get a grip on the spring cap and turn that anti clockwise, that will undo the screw as well.
I'm really surprised that it was one of the suggestions of a mechanic to get it out, I guess it works for him. Nelly's was the best, safest and easiest idea. Mole grips on the spring cap, did it in 20 seconds! Cheers. Why do Ducati provide cheddar screws for important bits on the bike? Still slightly embarrassed by my first post lol Thanks guys, always helpful.
