So having ridden a cheeky 70 odd miles, I got home having been a little battered around the ring....Phanar. despite the improvements of the Aztec adapters I was still suffering buffeting and unacceptable noise so when I arrived home I whipped the screen off totally. What a transformation! it was comfy. no noise no buffeting and constant predictable airflow on my upper body. Now then it got me to thinking. Obviously riding without the screen makes the front end look untidy and unfinished. I have my experience on the 996 to compare which was surprisingly protective, quiet and offered not bad weather defences. I fully understand that in a downpour the upper body will take the full force of the weather but do the shorty screens still cause turbulence and noise or in fact offer any weather protection? Im considering the Puig lightly smoked screen. Can anyone advise / point me in the right direction / redesign the front end???
I think Kirky on Multistrada.net has cut his down keeping a similar profile just shorter. Same is true of the old multi.....without the screen is bliss
I've got a shorter carbon screen and I find it much better for general riding. If I was doing a long trip then I might consider putting a larger oneback on.
Saw a guy a few years ago on a Varadero, he had the same problems which he cured with an aftermarket screen with an air vent in. This equalised the air pressure either side of the screen therefore no more buffeting. Can't remember the make of screen, sorry. Maybe someone on here has an old oem one they don't want and you could experiment with.
I fitted the light smoke Puig screen, I am 6'4" and it is set on the upmost position on the slider, i find it fine, even at speeds into 3 figures. I wear either an enduro peak style lid or a flip front and they are both fine with it. In two weeks will see what its like on a 350 mile trip up to Fort William
I had a similar problem with my Aprilia Caponord, i had an ermax screen on it,and a popular mod was to cut two holes in the screen to balance pressure, mine had this but was never really happy with it, so made a bracket to make more raked, this worked to a degree but was never perfect. Thanks all, Im still a little undecided as to which way to leap. I like the idea of the "clean air" of the shorter screen but Ive not ridden any great distances yet and with a Continent trip coming up next week im trying to get into a position to not to have to worry too much about airflow! Nirvana I know..... Nik is that the tall screen or shorty, I cant quite make it out.

I've got the Puig short tinted screen fitted. I did a trip up to Elgin and its still horrendously noisy - in fact at over a ton it was painful . I've now fitted spacers and am off to the IOM for the Manx tomorrow so will see what difference it makes. To be honest my expectations aren't high. I'm 5' 7" so not exactly a giant I tried it at a number of height settings with no real difference. The noise is the most disappointing thing with the bike, and that's with a decent lid and ear plugs. More R & R before release Ducati.
