Interchangeability Ie And Carby's

  1. Ok a 2002 900sport has fallen into my possession.........usual trawl for bits n bobs.

Discussing with my son what we want to do with it - all options open at the moment.

The fairing is well bashed about so needs two cracked areas repaired and full respray or we pick up ebay bits..either get a good fairng or make up a decent fairing first before respray. Could go back to carby look but with the ie engine and forks - is that a no no on this forum ;-) ??

    So any tips on interchangeability?

    1. do carby fairings fit onto ie frames - lights of course differ but all else? Same mounting points on frame but differing brackets I assume? (I've never had both types side by side to compare)
    2. seats, seat side panels, rear light clusters? (seat is knackered, needs throwing away)
    3. clutch covers and plates - esp if we go open clutch and fancier pressure plate
    4. Foot pegs and controls - brake/gear levers - weren't moved were they?
    5. Tank I guess is the biggie - ie has this hinged arrangement and front is of course all airbox. Carby the same?

btw the way the tank drops over the airbox inlets seems to leave a small slit for incoming air - strikes me that'll throttle performance. Anyone messed around with the breathing?

    5. Exhausts. I know there's loads on exhausts. Thinking of just getting a couple of carbon silencers and have someone make up a couple of link tubes to mount them a little higher at the back. All about the aesthetics. Figure if they are free breathing (read 'loud') then shouldn't hit performance too much.

    cheers

  2. Oh not the new guy... Thought it was time for me to make the place look untidy.

To add to that, does anyone know what 'donor' bikes beyond the carb 900?

    i.e.
the forks off a 2005 monster fit like for like and are great

  3. Quite simply, anything fits with a bit of thought ;)

But I think footrest mounts differ, and the front sub frames certainly do. Other than that, with a bit of modification etc you'll make anything fit.

  4. after a successful day of locating quite a lot of bits for the bike(all from a donor 2002 900s), I think the big question is will
a single seat unit from a carby look good.....

  5. Doubt a slabby would look right, better off with one for your model

Or if your looking to go radical how about an RSV tail
