1098s Bad Running And Error Code 13.2 Vertical Cylinder Injector Error

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Dubs, Mar 9, 2015.

  1. Hi Folks

in Spain last week, Cartagena for three days, all looked great. So excited to get a real run on the 1098. But it wasnt to be ! :( from day one !!

    " 13.2 Vertical cylinder injector error "

On second session on first day the bike went down to one cylinder and I hobbled back to the garage. I had the usual engine light and the bike sounded like a wounded pig. So took off the tank and disconnected the battery and then the coil on the rear cylinder. The bike fired up fine and ran ok and engine light disappeared.

Off out, then the bike would like become jerky at around 6k rpm in second gr. Top speed was about 130 / 14 kms per hr !! I was fit to be tied.

I changed the relay beside the battery, out for another run, no difference.

I suspect the coil but no real way of knowing. The bike will be with the dealer this Sat. Im going to ride it a half hr from the collection point to my mechanic guy to see what he thinks.

Anyone have this problem before ?

( I got loads of offers on bikes but took the academy's 2013 fireblade that i was with for the last day and this took the sting out of my disappointment. I was gutted. Was so looking forward to dialling in the 1098 ! Gutted, i really like that track )

  2. change the coil onto the other cylinder then recheck but also check if the plugs are at fault

  4. I would say that's almost definitely the relay. Easy and super cheap fix, Result!

As Nelson mentioned, there are 2 relays!

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  5. As said there are two relays. The front one is for the fans and the rear one for the coil/injector/fuel pump. Pesky £1.99 part causes no end of problems. Buy some spares for back up.

  6. We put in a new relay with no joy...:upyeah:

  7. check resistance of the injectors prob 16ohms should be the same anyhoo.

  8. In that case, check a couple of wiring points. First, the little earth fly lead that goes onto one of the ECU bolts. Clean with emery and refit. Second, check the wiring going to the fuel pump/injectors under the tank for chafing.

  9. heres another one that was common on some of the fiats that i believe share similar components, incorrect or faulty spark plugs can list injector errors.prob 5k ohms for them.

  10. Swap the coils (completely) and see if the error code shifts from "13.2 Vertical" to "13.1 Horizontal" and that will tell you if it's the coil or something else in the wiring.

  11. cheers all.

I will have a look into it on Sat. Still a bit gutted. I borrowed a 2013 fireblade ( like the old days ) for the last day. ( a few jap yokes actually blew up while were where there, gutten for them but i didnt feel so bad ! ) Having the blade made it so it wasnt a complete waste of money. Plus some of the lads are real headcases, we had some good laughs.

Some useful stuff above to bare in mind anyway.

    Will update the weekend !!

    :upyeah::upyeah:

  12. 749sdub You said you changed the relays. Did you look at the condition of the relay bases that you were plugging the new relays into? It's possible that the base could be manky resulting in a bad connection.

  13. Cheers John.

Without me sounding completely naive, how would you go about cleaning inside those connectors where relays etc plug into ? Small gaps to say the least !

  14. Now you've got me! I would certainly spray the plug thoroughly with some kind of cleaner ,switch cleaner would be ideal, or brake cleaner, or meths, you might have to resort to vodka!
If close examination revealed any signs of corrosion i would find something thin enough to push into the slots in an attempt to clean .
Necessity is the mother of invention!

  15. I would probably resort to using my favorite standby, the tin can. I would cut a small strip of the can with a pair of snips, or scissors if no snips, and then beat any rough edges flat with a small hammer. I would use my club hammer as an anvil.

  17. Brilliant Fin I have been racking my one remaining brain cell trying to think of something that I would have used, I keep a few of those strips as it seems a waste to throw em away when replacing wiper blades.

  18. cool cool, give the ends a wee grind to make em thinner and will roughen the surface for cleaning. :upyeah::smile:
