Marchesini forged alloy - paint or powder coat

  1. I'm sorry if this has been asked before, I've looked but can't find any answers so perhaps they died along with the old ducatisti site.

Anyway I may be getting some forged marchesinis painted/powder coated (off a SFS) and wondered if with today's modern techniques and lower temps required will they be ok with powder coating?

I believe they're painted from the factory but it's not a very thick layer and does chip easily hence why I'm thinking powder coat.

Obviously if it's going to screw them then I wouldn't bother and stick with paint :)

  2. If it's forged aluminium it shouldn't be a problem. I coated a couple of sets of Rays car wheels (again, standard finish *very* fragile) without any problems, and know of loads more that have been fine. I believe it's forged magnesium that's the tricky one.

  3. Are you removing your bearings?

  4. Damo, powder coating should be fine for them mate. As above tough you should consider pricing in a new set of bearings. I've coated loads of sets of wheels and have to say I've been bloody lucky and only needed to replace a few bearings due to the heat distorting the seals. Just something to bear in mind.

  5. Bearings are cheap enough so I'd definitely do that.

Next problem is getting a powder coat oem thing similar to the gold/bronze used on the streetfighters
