Radial Master cylinder ratio question

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Sev, Aug 28, 2012.

  1. Hi All,

Quick question, is there a standard ratio that Ducati uses for the radial clutch and brake masters or do they differ from bike to bike?

Also are there any fundamental differences between the oem radial on say an 1198 or 1199 and the identical looking item we see on the generic Brembo resellers sites like Harris or Demon Tweeks?

  2. brembo are the pace setter mate for quality of materials used, though there are others as expensive.

front brake ratio is about feel, a 19 x 18 is more for the track where as the 19 x 20 is progressive and probably not as harsh.

with the clutch you want the 16 x 16 for more travel and feel.....this can depend on the size of the slave cylinder you have ...

have a read of the brembo web site or harris as they give you a good breakdown description.

  3. Thanks Andy, but it was more the ratios that Ducati use I was interested in. I realise that now pretty much all of the Ducati's run a radial brake and clutch master, but I was wondering if for example all brakes were 19x20 and all clutches were 16x.. for example or whether the monster/diavel etc uses different ratios to say the 999/1098/1199 because of their target market.

I'm running a 19x20 on both brake an clutch at the moment, both of which are probably going to go as I'd like to replace them with Ducati radials as they are a more tidy package with the brake light integration. The clutch is way to heavy and just not right, so its either going to be a ducati radial clutch or i'll just go back to an oem and an oberon clutch slave. the 19x20 just isn't funny at the moment.

  4. Thats because you have the wrong clutch master cylinder ratio. As andyb stated, 16 for the clutch.

the ducati range has the same ratios for different models (as long as it is a twin disc set-up of course) on th clutch and brake. 16 and 19

  5. Thanks Cranker, I knew I had the wrong ratio's for the clutch, all I was wanting to know was really whether I could buy any of the ducati radials without fear, and you've pretty much answered that so thanks very much for that. Very much appreciated from both of you.
