MY SF pops a little but nowhere near as much as the Evo did. Yes it does have a nice deep rumble. Oh yes it certainly does pick up very quickly from a closed throttle, mine is very naughty and keeps lanching the front wheel of the ground, I have to admonish it time and again.
I loved the noise mine made when it was popping and banging, but it rides so much better now with the DP map and still sounds great, just no bangs
The popping and banging is unburnt fuel being ignited in the exhaust so it is a sign of the bike not being as fuel efficient as it should be. Mind you my 899 used to bang on every quick shift My SF does that now to and someone said they are sure the odd flame has popped out too
I went with a remap, MotoRapido loaded a '848 Challenge' stock map on there which richened the mix up a fair bit and tbh it was night and day better than standard! The big thing was disabling the Lambda/O2's so they don't overly lean out the fuelling and cause so much surge. I paid £260 as it's not mapped specific to my exact bike, but CJS gets great recommendations and when he quoted me he was extremely helpful. If I was doing it again, now I know how much difference it makes I would just go straight to CJS and spend the money.......
I have not had my Streetfighter mapped yet so I am planning to see pay a visit to CJS in the spring and have it mapped.
Book ahead. He gets busy. A few threads down on this forum I posted my response to my bike when I'd first got it back from remapping. They were my impressions posted hot off the saddle so to speak, if that helps. Mine's a 1098 bear in mind and the difference before and after depends on how out of kilter your bike was in the first place because apparently they can vary enormously. My bike is back at Louigi's this winter being blue-printed, dynamically balanced, heads ported, flowed and skimmed and cams twiddled. The bike is a keeper and I wanted to make it the best it can be while remaining the most reliable and durable for long term ownership and this is the most cost effective route. I'll report on the results in due course.
I have the Austin Racing GP2 and had Dave at Redline reflash my ECU with a custom dyno tuned map. The bike is smooth as butter, fueling is perfect. Makes the Streetfighter much easier to live with around town. No lean spot at 4-5k RPM. Do it right and don't waste your time with any canned maps.
