Hi all, had my sf for 4 months now and done 3000 miles on it and really enjoy riding the bike. It does flap about a bit when pushing on and I have been thinking about getting a steering damper for it. I noticed that Count said in one of his posts that he had ordered a damper and was wondering how it was fitted? Do I need the clamp and brackets off the 1098sf?, will they fit on the 848 with the different steering angle and what other bits do I need??
I have the standard Ducati damper for the SF1098. It fits fine as there is no real difference to the bikes. I could upgrade just the damper piece but the regular unit Is fine. Looks prettier as well
I was informed that Ducati will be bringing out a kit for the 848 Sf soon. The 1098 unit will not fit correctly due to the different headstock angle and causes the unit to bind.
I've done 1,000 miles on the SF1098 unit on my SF848 and not noticed any binding. It was fitted by the Ducati dealer so I doubt they'd get something like that wrong given it would have a safety implication if it locked up while you were riding.
I can only give the information i was given by Moto Rapido yesterday regarding the damper, i also wanted the damper upgrade and contacted Ducati direct and this is what they told me. Whether the information was wrong is not for me to argue. I appreciate that you have fitted the unit from the 1098 and have not had any problems but i was advised that it is not recommended and a kit was due out for the 848 very soon.
Thanks for the update, as it happens, I haven't ordered the parts yet as the bracket that attaches to the ignition was on back order so i didn't bother. Am still interested as the bike can get a little lively overt the bumps.
