It's definitely him! Yes it will. I took off on a couple yesterday The review was ok, pretty much my thoughts from my first ride yesterday. Mind you overtaking on double white lines is not big and it's not clever
Absolutely. One makes a judgement at the time. Double white lines were put there for cars. The overtaking on a sporty bike is completely different and I had excellent vision and time to spare. Other than that, yeah, they are there for a reason. Thats my story anyway Funny though.. I would never consider things like this in a car that I would do on a bike. I am a bit reckless, always have been but the speed, handling and narrowness of a bike makes a HUGE difference. You'd just love my parking on the 899 review video... haha. Not...
And that would be the wrong judgment according to plod who pulled me over a couple of years ago for doing exactly the same thing with exactly the same amount of double white lines as you had.
I hope you only got a warning! But it is of course illegal unless overtaking a 10MPH vehicle or turning right into a provate turning, or something like that. I believe nearly all motorcycling is a judgement call starting from whether the conditions make it wise to do so, up to speeding at well over the limit - which is probably the most common thing motorcyclists do. I still maintain that the the vast majority of the highway code was made for cars, and even old cars back in the 70s, and a modern bike can make a mockery of it from an enhanced riding view, speed and agility. Still, the law is the law - but it needs updating or even changing for other vehicle types IMHO. But that is a whole new discussion and won't help us as bikers are almost as admonished as cyclists!
White lines equal easy 3 points and revenue for local plod even if they are coming from opposite direction. Easier to wait
Bloody hell.. I can't be the only one who would break the speed limit, cross double white lines and filter to the right of two lanes of traffic light trafic. Eek, maybe I am. If I didn't think about risks then I would never get on these friggin dangerous machines in the first place.
Legality, risk and safety is all in the mix of riding these bikes. I DO slow down for junctions, prepare to stop at roundabouts, and always stop at STOP signs as the risk is a LOT higher but on a fast bike, with clear vision for 400 yards with a slowish car, no junctions or farm turnings then I would overtake that car every time. Not all double white lines are perfectly laid down, there is a large amount of extra lining before and after where it is critical. There is NO argument as to legality. One shouldn't do it - period.
Do as you like matey. Simply speeding needs extra effort by plod. Crossing a white line boom ticket and cash cow milked. Especially if you then post it to YouTube
Just watched it back.. I only had to wait another 50 yards. I could see it was clear, couldnt see it the double changing otherwise i would have waited. I was wondering why there were even doubles there but it was a case of putting them down early as i mentioned before. Doesnt stop me getting done for it.
Ha, yeah. I saw the hazards were clear so pushed on. I hate it when cars are 'right' behind me. Has nobody spotted me braking on the road for no reason... might get way with that one as I was indeed testing the brakes.
For the sake of other people actually interested in the BIKE can we not now keep comments to what the bike was like, comfort, etc, or comments on my actual comments on the bike should one not agree with them. Yeah, I know... it's what happens when people post videos but it was only posted to give people my view on it! I do know that I should stick to cycling...
Thanks guys, I have now edited the video - great spot. Better to be safe than sorry, well, better not to go over white lines at all. I do it a fair bit looking at other videos so its a good lesson to relearn. i need to pay more attention when talking even if the coast is perceived as clear. Cheers again.
